I was invited by one of my friends to celebrate her sisters Quinceañera, I know very little about Puerto Rican culture and this perticular celebration. I am trying to figure out if I should bring a gift or not and if there are any other things that I should do. Her invitation doesn't specify anything that I (a very American girl) should do! Please help so I don't show up looking like an idiot.

If I should bring a present what is the most appropriate?

Don't worry, for the most part, it will be just like any other party you've been to, but there will likely be a formal choreographed dance, by the birthday girl and her court. A Quinceanera looks very much like a wedding. Anything you would give to any other fifteen year-old is appropriate, something you know she'll like. As for your attire, a party dress is great. Just wear something more on the conservative side, not too flashy or revealing. You don't want to outshine the guest of honor or upset her family. Have fun!

You may want to check with your friend on this. The Quinceanera is a coming out party for a girl turning 15 in the latin, spanish, and mexican cultures. It is usually quite formal and can be very elaborate. The 15 yr. old is usually in a full length gown and it's often pink and guests tend to dress accordingly. Each culture does things a little different and those living in the US may also have changed it but I would definitely want to know how formal the party will be before going. This is a transition from little girl to adult so your gift should be appropriate to that thought.

Yes of course you should take a gift, it is a birthday party. Take something like you would at any party for your friend and if you cant think of something then get her a gift card so that she can pick her gift. Dress like your going to a wedding. Nice and pretty is best.

this is at age 15 right? i think anything that you would by for a birthday would be acceptable. the family usually give larger things but a pair of earrings or something small would be fine. money is good too.
