It really needs to be evaluated by a vet.. a few diseases come to mind right away as well as possible trauma.
Lung tumors almost always present this way along with coughing. It could also be allergies and irritants causing minor bleeding. Heartworm also comes to mind. You have not indicated if there was a lot of blood, or blood tinged mucous.
We also have no idea what age or breed the dog is, if you have him her on heartworm meds, if you played catch with a stick today, and history of heart issues, etc.
Anyway, the point is that coughing up blood is not normal and you need to take the dog to the vet ASAP.

Could mean a problem like cancer but the only way to know for sure is to have the dog evaluated further by the vet to see what they think is going on.

It means you need to get the dog to the vet ASAP. It may have a ruptured lung or it may be not so serious. But, if you love and care for the dog - get it to a Vet asap.

Better take the dog to the vet. Could be any number of things, such as kidney infection, or internal bleeding.
