I am choosing to feed my dog natural cooked food. I made her a pan fried (just a little pam to keep it from sticking) chicken breast and sprinkled a little garlic powder over the chicken ( i heard that its good for themm) . my doggie loved it and i put the leftovers in the fridge. Was this good to give my dog...? can i cook semi large quanities of meat and veggies and rice at one time the refrigerate for a week or so? i will not let the food sit for more than a week (i doubt it will because my dog loves it)

Like i said... my dog doesnt like dog food... like she will pick the chewy morsels out of the food and leave the rest...

That's it?? A chunk of meat with garlic powder?? No.. You should look up some balanced diets and make sure that your dog is eating properly. Just meat isn't a natural balanced diet with all the vitamins and minerals necessary to make sure your dog is healthy as possible.. He is missing A LOT of what he needs..

You can cook up large quantities and put it into the fridge.. You want to make sure you are using up tho just like you would if you put a left over something in the fridge yourself.. You would be good tho to cook it up and freeze say 4 days, and refridgerate 3 days.. As you get to day 2 of your fridge food, pull 2 more out of the freezer and let them thaw in the fridge.. That way if for some reason your dog doesn't eat one day, you aren't getting behind in using up your food..

Garlic powder in moderation is fine.. Garlic SALT is not fine..

Yes chicken breast is good and garlic has many remedies-it's good for the immune system is is said to repel fleas when added to pets food. If you want to make a large quantity just freeze it(It will stay good for a long time this way.) in individual servings and then you can defrost for each meal. Make sure to feed your dog a variety though so she gets the vitamins and nutrients she needs. Look for raw diet pet recipes online so you can learn to include fruits and veggies as well as different meats.

No need to cook anything - your dog is designed to eat raw carcasses not cooked food. BUT meat alone is not enough to provide adequate nutrition - he needs meat, edible bones and offal /organs too.

Many people never feed commercial food at all and an increasing number of informed vets are recommending this more natural diet.

Most good quality kibble, (not dog chow or grocery store stuff), but good stuff bought at a pet food store that contain all the vitamins and oils your dog needs mixed with what you cooked would be really good. So called "people food" alone, in the long run leaves out what they need to maintain a healty coat and strong bones.

You should NEVER use garlic or garlic powder for dogs or cats. It contains sulfoxides and disulfides, which can damage red blood cells and cause anemia. Go here for a longer list: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=2&cat=1661&articleid=1030
Also, it doesn't sound like he is getting enough nutrients that dogs need. You really need to do research about this before you try and cook all your dogs meals. Especially considering dogs are allergic to many human foods and some can even kill them.
Chances are you'll get tired of this easily, try using a doggy gravy that they sell at pet stores to put onto the dry food- or even mix a little wet food in with the dry. Almost all dogs love this.

Here's a couple of websites that talks about natural diets for dogs:

Also remember, dogs don't need that much grain (rice, etc)- they are more meat eaters than anything.

Most importantly- 1 week is a little much to keep food- you wouldn't eat it after a week would you? It's best to keep it for 3 to 4 days. Dogs are sensitive to any type of mold especially on old food.
