Do you think I can replace the neutral safety switch on my 95 automatic Camry 4 cyl.? (This switch ordinarly does not allow the engine to turn over unless it is in park or N) I think this is the problem.

I am a do-it-yourselfer, but not a pro. mechanic. Do you know where it is located or where I could find a diagram. A parts store told me it will cost $197. Thanks.

I can get you the info you need on replacing the n/s switch. But the bigger question has already been stated: Why do you think you need one? They rarely go out, but there are other things that are very common. When you try to start the car, do you get one click, but that is all? The problem is much more likely the starter contacts, which are a common repair. The n/s switch can usually be checked by holding the key in the start position with one hand and moving the shifter through the gears with the other. If the starter runs in any position except Park or Neutral, or won't run in one or the other, the switch is probably bad. Let me know your symptoms, and I'll try to help. toyodave@yahoo.com
God Bless.

If we had a little more info. as to why you think the switch is bad it might help. A CHILTONS manual may help, available at parts store. NEVER replace a part till you know the problem. An ohm meter will check whether the switch is working before you replace it. All you need is to check with the meter as to open or closed circuit.

Check the Chilton manual for the year and make. That is the most obvious place that I can think of. If it isn't there do a google search for mechanics and neutral switches and if anything at all comes up you should be able to narrow your search as you go if you do it that way.
