Don't forget that the US Merchant Marines lost THE MOST SHIPS out of any branch during WWII. They also were denied their veteran's status regardless of their sacrifice.

That question is very vague and open. Best in regards to what? Medals awarded, missions accomplished, damage created, ground taken?
All branches had outstanding units as well as units that were poorly led. All branches did something in WW2..from the Coast Guard that sank a couple of German U boats to the Merchant Marine that took supplies from our shores to all parts of the world, all branches did what they did best in the enviroment they worked in.
The 8th Army Air Corp was a good unit, they fielded the B-17 bombers and caused more material and industrial damage to the 3rd Reich than other units.
Both the 101st and the 82nd were pivotal in D-day operations and used their ability to parachute in to their advantage.
You cant forget about the 1st Inf Div, 4th ID, 444th Combat Team, 10th MTN, and all the others that fought, gained ground and lost thousands of men.
The Navy and the Marines both fought and lost in the Pacific theater, with each branch having good victories.
If you talk to a WW2 vet, they will say that whatever unit they were in was the best.
As far as I am concerend, they all were the best.

let me make a stab at this...
The unit that was the best of a group of like units. IE a Bomb Wing that was so far superior to all the others or a Division that was, or a Fleet/ship that was.
Army AF has to go to the Tuskegee Airmen who never lost an escorted bomber to enemy air attack. They weren't flashy, just did their job perfectly.
The USS Enterprise was the only carrier to start and finish the Pacific war.
4th Armoured Div just flat outran and out fought any other division in Europe if not History!

Too many to name.
One of the most decorated:
The 442nd Regimental Combat Team of the United States Army, was a unit composed of mostly Japanese Americans who fought in Europe during the Second World War. The families of many of its soldiers were subject to internment. The 442nd was a self-sufficient fighting force, and fought with distinction in North Africa, Italy, southern France, and Germany, becoming the most highly decorated unit of its size and length of service in the history of the U.S. Army, including 21 Medal of Honor recipients.
And we put their parents in concentration camps even though they were American by birth!

Heck Chris----the 82nd has "The Longest Day" with everyone's favorite hero John Wayne in the lead as the airborne commander.
However, we of the 101st have "Band of Brothers", "Battleground" and "Hamburger Hill".
Airborne!!! 101st form the 70's when the 101st still had an airborne brigade.

It was an overall effort but my biased opinion is the 82nd Airborne. The FIRST and LAST Airborne Division in the United States Army. Just because we dont have a HBO mini-series doesnt mean we are not the best.

I believe the 442nd RCT consisted of all Japanese Americans. They were the most decorated unit in WW II. The Germans called them the "little iron men".

depends WW2 was a big war.
you have to consider flying units who did bombing raids under heavy fire sometimes returning with planes no one could figure out how they still flew.
you had ground units in europe that fought bloody battles like the big red one
and you had Marine units who fought some of the bloodiest battles of WW2 like the Marines did on Iwo Jima and other places thru out the south pacific.
So naming one wouldbe hard but for the hardest fought battle you would have to consider the Marines at Iwo Jima

The North Koreans called Marines yellow legs because of the leggings they wore. They were commanded to not attack the yellow legs because they were tough fighters. The Marines removed their leggings to fool the North Koreans into thinking they were Army so they would attack them.
