I am an international student from another country. What happen if I leave the US next month without paying off my credit card debt that I own in here? What are the things that would possibly happen?

I think it will go on your credit report here in the United States with interest build up. But I mean honestly, it might be better for you and your conscience to just pay the debt off. Apparently you needed something that you got and you took the debt and gave YOUR PROMISE to repay it. When you don't pay you are essentially lying and then others (consumers and businesses) have to pay for what you did not in the form of higher interest rates, etc. I don't think they will bring you back to the U.S. and make you pay but if you ever wanted to come back, there is no telling what the rules might be later. They might make you go through a credit check before you can return or something! :)

You could be charged with theft for things you charged and didn't pay off, I'm pretty sure. Bill collectors would bother your landlord, friends, and the school you attended, very possibly learning your address at home, where they could call you day or night to see when you plan to pay. With phone service becoming more international all the time, leaving the country is no longer a safe haven.

And you would very probably be barred from returning to the US, with a warrant outstanding for you arrest if you try to.

You got the stuff or used the services. Pay up.

I don't know. But you might want to check into that story a few years ago about the guy from America who fled to France and lived there for thirty years after bilking people out of millions first. When he was extradited back here, because of his age and the fact that they couldn't get their hands on the money he stole, he didn't get any serious time and is now back in France, living happily ever after.

This is a very foolish thing to do. If what you are doing overseas does not become successful, judgments will be here waiting for you. Furthermore, they will have interest added on them. Do not be a skip. Someday you will be sorry if you do. It just ain't smart.
