colds are caused by a multitude of different rhinoviruses (rhino is latin for nose) so the first symptoms of a cold are generally nasal, like sneezing, runny nose, congestion and so forth.

This one I know. A sore/scratchy throat, runny nose, slight fever, headache. Hope you don't have one!
