Yes, best to go for a proper eye examination and get the correct prescription , also they might pick up on some other medical conditions you might have.

I had an eye-sight examination and was told I needed +1 strength reading glasses, because I was on a low income at the time and couldn't really afford what they would have charged for the glasses, they told me that it would be better for me to get the cheap reading glasses, that they were just as good as the ones they sold anyway.

You can, however, mess your eyes up by getting a strength of glasses that you don't need. If you get some that are too strong you can damage your eyes. If you know exactly what strength you need, then no your eyes should be fine.

Hi

Glasses, cheap or expensive, cannot affect your vision. However, you may get severe headaches. You should go and see an optician to have your eyes checked and then decide whether you should shop around for off the shelf reading glasses or go for optician lenses and a cheapish frame.

Yes because the prescriptions are not accurate and you may buy a to strong or weak pair, And they are usually whole number prescriptions ,so get an eye test done so your prescription will be 100% right
And the lens on the cheap type can contain destorhions

also to caz_cara
the vision from your left eye will always be slightly different vision from your right eye so you're left eye may need 3.25, but you're right I may need 3.31. All cheap reading glasses do is magnify the words at say 3.00 or 3.25 or even 3.50.
This can cause eye strain and headaches, if you can get away with it. It's a cheap alternative.

They say not an adults. my specs are very strong so they do not sell them in the chemist. However when they are not correct and you do a lot of reading you will feel uncomfortable. Yours eyes will not be permanently damaged but is it worth the discomfort. only you know the answer.
In any event it is wise to have your eyes tested every couple of years because it can show early signs of something wrong.i.e. Glaucoma, High Blood Pressure etc.

Nope they wont mess ur eyes up at all, the only difference is, they wont be made to your exact prescription, so say for example, you are a -3.25 and the glasses you buy are a -3.00 or a -3-50 then it will just meen that the prescription isn't exact, but its near enough, if you cant afford the opticians?????????/

You know I was surprised when my Optometrist told me that besides the glasses he was prescribing for me, that if I wanted reading glasses, I could go to the drugstore and he even gave me the strength I should look for. So they must not be harmfull.
