our school dropped one of the 2 required grade 12 math courses this year. however, our class(entering g12) needed to know the information from this dropped course in order to start the 2nd course.

to help us, our grade 12 mathematics teacher did the kind favor of writing a 200-page booklet for us to look over during the SUmmer that went through all the main points we missed in the 1st course.

this way, we could enter the 2nd course with all the info we needed, even though we hadn't taken the first course.

I think this was a thoughtful thing to do and want to thank her, especially since this booklet must have taken weeks to write. nobody else (that i know of) has thanked her yet.

however, i don't want to sound like i'm thanking her only to get on her good side (like a brown-noser).

how can i do this?

There are a few things you can do:

1. Tell her in person how much you appreciated the effort. The guide book has helped tremendously. Your work in the math class is progressing nicely thanks to her.
2. Give her a card with a similar message:
Ms. Cooper: Thanks so much for the math guide booklet. I know you worked very hard on this all summer. Your efforts have paid off! I can follow along in my class without feeling confused. Thanks again.
3. Tell the department head. Give her a compliment. Being appreciated goes a long way!

First ask if anyone else would like to pitch in then buy a big red apple and lean a gift card on it will a note that simply states that she is truly appreciated. If it turns out you are the only one with this kind of thoughtfulness and your on a budget get 4-5 different types of apples and leave a note. This teacher sounds very dedicated and just the fact that you would take the time to say "Thank you" will probably mean a lot to her.
card ideas: Victoria's secret, Starbucks, visa, green dot, movie theater tix card. Oh, and if you any charities she might be into give in her name, i.e. breast cancer, animal shelter. Good luck and "thank you" for being so nice, this world needs young people like you.

You bring her a coffee mug that says "Number one teacher" or something on it. (any good gift shop should have these.) And a thank you card, in which you have written your appreciation for her hard work. Include that you realize this took her a long time to make that booklet.

Give it to her before class, when the other kids aren't around to see. Don't worry that she might consider this brown nosing. She won't. You will most likely be the only one who recognizes her work, and she will be happy to get this.

See her after class or some time/place when it's just the two of you. Just tell her what you think, that you felt the booklet really helped and you are grateful that she went to the effort. That could hardly be confused with brown-nosing.

Sending her flowers, now I think -that- would be brown-nosing.

Just say, "I want to thank you for the work you did for us on this book. It must have been a lot of work, and it was very kind of you to go above and beyond the call of duty to help us."

That is, say it nice, but don't use hyperbole: exaggeration. Don't say "OMG that was the best thing anyone ever did you are a saint I love you I'll never forget you."

Have your class pass around and sign a NICE card for her, at the very least. A nice flower arrangement would be very much appreciated, or even a gift card to a favorite restaurant. If the entire group does this together, it shows your appreciation without giving her the appearance that anyone is sucking up. She did this for your class, and you are thanking her as a class.

Just say thank you. It's not brown nosing to be grateful. She obvious made it easier for everyone to move into the next level.
