Driving under the influence is illegal therefore the suspension is legal.

The State of California may recognize medicinal marijuana, however, the Federal Law does not. California drivers licenses are for driving on the highways and byways of California. Should California want to continue receiving the federal dollars for highway maintenance and construction...I'm sure the drug violations will be an issue!

even if the marijuana you had was for medical reasons and you had proof of that (which you did).. it is still illegal to drive high. That is driving under the influence of drugs.. That's why your license is suspended.

I don't think you can drive on drugs, even if the drugs are legal.

i'd get a lawyer .. especially for your friend. if you could pass the sobriety test .. then what is the issue ? i'd get legal advice. good luck.
