You can paint the concrete basement floor, you can paint the bedroom floor, too. You can use vinyl tiles which are much cheaper than vinyl, carpet or hardwood or laminate. You can put down remnant carpet or area rugs. You can put down one sided good plywood on the basement floor, too.

Linoleum is the only other solution I can think of. There a literally thousands of designs, and you can buy it at big stores like Walmart if you want a good deal. You can buy the peel and stick kind - super easy to lay down.

You could also buy rugs that are machine washable. That way you can wash them 1-2X a month if your allergies start kicking up.

If you decide to go with rugs, I also recommend Febreze Allergen Reducer spray. I spray it on the carpeted areas my dog likes to lay.

We just did that. We went to the carpet warehouse in our area and got one of their discontinued carpets and rolled it down and stuck it on the floor with two sided rug tape. It works great on the basement floor. It cost us more for the two sided tape than for the carpet.

Get the peel and stick floor tile you can get it for about $.39 / sq ft. for something that looks decent.

But if your that straped for cash you can get a floor paint. It'll work.
