It's important to have them both done to save them from future health problems. You'll be saving the male from prostate and testicular cancer and the female from pyometra, ovarian and cervical cancer - and reducing the risk of mammary tumours.

I guess you could say it's even more important to get the female done - an unspayed female has a 1 in 10 chance of getting a pyometra (potentially fatal womb infection) and a 1 in 4 chance of getting mammary cancer. I see these conditions all the time in unspayed females, it's very wearing.

Yes keep the puppies IF you can afford them, so you won't be taking up homes needed by shelter dogs.

Not having any more pups is just one of many reasons to neuter!!

EDIT: Regarding pepzi_bandit's comment, neutering slows down the metabolism of both male and female cats and dogs - however this does NOT have to mean the animal will get fat. It's easily controlled with a sensible diet.

You really want to spay and neuter both of them. It will keep them healthy, keep the female from getting pregnant with another dog, and keep the male from trying to get to a female whenever a dog walks by.
I want to say congratulations on your decision. I'm glad that you have decided to spay/neuter your pets.

You could keep a puppy if you have the time and patience to deal with a young puppy.

Good luck!

if you have enough time to deal with puppies then you could keep one, but they are a BIG responsibilty.
neutering the male will keep him from marking all over the house, running off, being aggressive and mounting people, dogs and objects, this will also prolong his life.
spaying the female will mean no more heats, no unwanted litters, prolonged life, no male dogs lurking around...and the list goes on.
First get the female spayed, when you can I would suggest getting the male done too.
do the female asap though. good luck.

Best thing is to do them both....if the girl isn't done she could get pregnant next time she comes in season by some stray dog breaking into your garden etc (believe me they're persistent lol) and the boy will constantly be horny if he's not fixed. Plus the health bonuses of avoiding testicular or ovarian cancer among other things.

Spay and neuter! It will not only stop future unwanted puppies, but will also benefit the health of your dogs.

Maybe you could keep one of the puppies...some would think its a nice gesture!
I spoz it really depends on the response you get when you come to give the puppies up...
I guess only you know how easy you will find it to let them all go... Sometimes its not that hard to become attached...they are your babies too, and I know you are a man, but even men can become quite soppy .....

fix them both. not only will u be safe from some other unfixed dog coming in and getting ur female pregnant or having ur male get some unaltered female pregnant, u will be saving urself a lot of trouble in the future when they get older. they can both get cancer in those areas and on those parts of their bodies. if u neuter ur male he wont get testicular cancer and if u spay ur female she wont get ovarian cancer. dogs that r fixed usually live longer than ones that arent

Health wise its better to get both altered. If you can afford to do the same and keep up with the health care of the puppies, then keep what you can if you want. But don't bite off more then you can chew. Do what is best for you and the dogs.

I would do both. It will extend the lives of both and reduce dominant behavior.

As far as keeping the puppies. do you WANT to keep the puppies? Do you have the money to spay/neutor fedd and pay vet bills for the puppies? do you have enough room for that many dogs? Is it legal for you to have 2+ dogs where you live? If the answer to all of the above is "yes" then keep the puppies!
