Check out the 5th character of the VIN. What is the letter? It can be everything from a slant 6 (which is not a V6!) to a 273/235. The addition of a 383 would make the car a GTS; I believe the code for that one is an "H".
To find out the engine codes for the 6 and the two 273 engines available, go to www.moparts.com.
If you are wondering what engine is in it now, rather than what it came with originally (or if it is both!) you may want to hear from somebody else.

Look for a label on the underside of the hood, on the crossbar just in front of the radiator, or inside the drivers side door. One of those may have the technical information to include engine size. If that does not work, take the VIN to a dodge dealer and see if they can determine engine size from that.

In case Amy didn't make it clear: On the driver side of the engine block, just below the cylinder head and above the starter will be cast the engine size. You will need a mirror to read it, I've tried from underneath, but too much stuff is in the way.

I beg to differ with anyone who has previously answered, but I KNOW for a fact that the V8 in Dodge Dart GT is a 273 cubic inch engine. I had a '65 D-Dart and that engine was used in all Darts for several years. Thanks. Good luck!

Does it still have the owners manual with it if it does it should be in there. You do not say what kind of shape the car is in at all. If it is in excellent shape open hood and look for some thing like a sticker and will tell you. Last thing to try take it by the dealer and they should be able to help you out.

On the side of the motor just behind the starter is where the engine id is on a small block dodge.By behind I mean on the side of the starter on the block. You should be able to see it without removing the starter.

It is a 318 cubic inch V8. If it were a V6, it would be a 225 cubic inch motor.
