I don't ever use this YAHOO! Answers thing but I've found myself quite the conundrum and I thought it was worth a try. I am currently sixteen years old and have never been in a real relationship (other than friends and family of course). Lately this guy that I run into quite often and I have been flirting, a lot. I'm not the type of girl that goes head over heels for every guy that shows interest but this person in particular makes me crazy. I'm also pretty sure that he is going to ask me out soon and I would love to. Great right? Wrong. The boy is in his early twenties and though neither my parents nor I have any problem with this, how could he not? I don't believe that he knows how old I am; I haven't lied or hidden it but it's just never come up and I look a lot older. Is there any way that I could break this to him without scaring him off or is this just something that's doomed to fail? Thanks

I currently live in Washington state. I am, however, unaware of the state's current statutory rape laws.

I will turn seventeen in a little less than three months. Also I just wanted to add that I am not in love with the guy and will not be heartbroken if we don't end up dating, I just like him. And, I would never lie about my age I was just wanting some opinions.

I just found this but am not sure of it's credibility:

"The age of consent in the state of Washington is 16. This means that under current statute, the adult would not be prosecuted for the sexual offense "Rape of a child" (statutory rape) if engaged in consensual sexual relations with a minor age 16 or 17.

Special Circumstance: In Washington the age of consent changes to 18 if the adult perpetrating the sexual relationship is in a position of control or authority over the minor, or a public employee at least 48 months older than the minor; such as a teacher, or employer."

Age really doesn't matter are you almost 17?

Either you are lying about your age for some reason or you are a very intelligent 16 year old. Great writing skills, used spell check, everything made sense. Clear and concise.

I commend you.

Now, no question about what you need to do. You need to tell him you are 16 years old. In my opinion, the age difference itself makes no difference EXCEPT for the fact that he could go to JAIL if you two have sex. Even if it is consensual.

You notice I didn't say you had to stop seeing each other. I just said that he needs to know how old you are. As I said, you are a very intelligent person and I know you know what the right thing to do is.

That's the hard part about growing up and being a good person. We have to decide every day: Do I do what I want or do I do what is right? When you start doing things because they are right you have become an adult. No matter your age.

Age does not rely..yet..while you're lots older, then you somewhat would continually have that nagging seen what the actual reason she or he's with you. Will a 20 365 days old alluring lady somewhat be head over heels in love with a 50 or 60 365 days old guy? how approximately in 10 or two decades? Its no longer the age they at the instant are, yet do you opt to be with a pensioner once you're on your 30's and at your sexual top??

Welcome ot Yahoo! Answers!

Ok...even though your age never came up, he is going to have to find out sooner or later. Does he assume that you're older? Has he asked anything about your age? Whatever the situation, you need to come clean with him. It might sound unattractive, but he might actually be uncomfortable with dating you after he finds out your real age, because keep in mind dating a boy 3 years older than you when you're a minor is illegal, and if you choose to have sex it will be considered rape if you caught and he will go to jail (which isn't going to stop you anyway if you like him enough, but just remember that.)

There's no easy way to do it. You can wait until he asks you out or you can come clean early so you won't have to deal with the messy consequences, but either way if you want the relationship to work you can't hide any secrets (or at least no secrets as big as your age) If he likes you enough, he won't mind or he'll come around. But again, I remind you that getting involved with a boy so much older than you (he's at least 5 years older I assume) can be trouble. Because he is so much older and (I'm guessing) much MUCH more experienced, he might not be the best choice to start your FIRST relationship in.

Just my two cents. GL!

if a girl is 16, its just not right if she dates anyone older than 19, even that is pushing it.

its called stataory rape
and that aint cool

if hes really all that and a bag of chips though, i would recommend just staying friends with him until you get to 17 or 18. not only then will you be legal, but also as time passes, youll get to know him really well, and then bby the time you start dating, it might be the real thing.

I am 16 also, i am married, im young but i know i choose the right choice for my life, but my husband is 24. There is nothing wrong with dating an older guy just always have it in the back of your mind that IF yall sleep together and get cought and someone reports yall he will go to jail for rape. and I KNOW it wont be but thats the law. Be careful :)

I think it would be wrong for you to NOT tell him. I suggest casually dropping it into a conversation. Like... ask him how old he is and then say something along the lines of... "Oh, well you know I'm 16 right?" You'll be able to tell instantly if this freaks him at all - just watch his face and pray. :/ If this is a problem for him, I think you should respect his decision and go your separate ways. Good luck!

Well, in most states it is illegal to date someone who is older than you when you are underage, I do not know what state you live in, or where you are from.

If my daughter was wanting to date a 20 year old male, then I would have to say no, it is terribly illegal in our state!!

I would say remain friends with him, but that is it, do not get serious, because your parents could be in trouble for letting you date an older guy. And he could land himself in jail for dating an underaged girl, that would be you.

So my answer would be to try to find a guy to date your own age.

Unless he's the kind of guy that's going to wait until you are legal, it's a failure. AND, a guy that is willing to date a younger gal is only thinking on one thing.

well, if you don't have a problem with it and your parents don't have a problem with it, then just tell him.

say "do you know that i'm 16? i just want you to kow that b/c it might scare some people off and i didn't want to get to know you and then you realize it and run away!"

just be honest with him....it's not doomed, maybe he won't care...but honestly, i hope he does care....sorry:)
