I don't think you can trust mere humans with such a sacred institution.

Safiyya2: That's rough, but hey, sanctity. Need that sanctity intact, yanno?

I suspect some "tongue in cheek" here, but if, by banned, you mean that the government should stop sanctioning all marriages, then I'm all for it! "Banned" as in "against the law" as in people would actually be prosecuted for marrying, that would be ridiculous and impossible to enforce. However, the idea that the government can not only sanction marriage but actually enforce (and disolve) marriage "contracts" is what I find sickening! What right does the government have to redistribute income to provide rewards (or punishments) to people that choose to share their life with someone...what right do they have to take tax dollars from me and give them to someone that is married or that chooses to have a child(e.g., extending government employment benefits to spouses and children)? Sorry for jumping on my personal soap box, but I'm just so sick of this whole "gay marriage" political debate. I think gay marriage is wrong, but I think it is just as wrong, and furthermore, illegal, for the government to deny any citizen the right to share his or her life with whomever they want while they are handing our differential benefits based on marital status!!

I've been married twice. So I'm fully in favor of that law for reasons that have nothing at all to do with "sanctity" of the institution!

It works out when you add money to the mix. Marriage should be only for those that can afford it. Then you have sanctity and money, which begats sanctimony. And there you have it.

No. Mere humans cannot go on without that sacred institution. Besides, it was God who gave it to us! Do you really think it would be wise to throw it back into His face?
Think about it.

Maybe... but what about those religions that preach about not having any kind of sex until after marriage?

...sort puts and end to that congregation, eh?
