The coast guard is a more or less defensively oriented fleet. The chances of going over to the gulf are slim to none, and the only thing you'd be doing over there would be running cutters to enforce trade laws and such.

Don't listen to the hype of armchair commandos, we're not eliminating our homeland defense to send the coast guard on patrols in Iraq

Won't happen. We have guys in the Middle East, but they either want to be there, or they are reservists. There are a few ships that went over, but they were conducting operations at sea the entire time, they never stepped foot on Iraqi soil.

Ordinarily I would say nil, but given that we're just about out of soldiers and Bush insists on maintaining or increasing troop levels in Iraq for several more years, and would also like to attack several other countries, I wouldn't be surprised if he finds a way to send Coasties. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he eventually finds a way to send the Boy Scouts!!

the CG does have personnel and ships in the Gulf. It could happen.
