You should go to a local or chain business supply store like Staples or Office Max.
One local store I could not survive without carries thick parchment in every shade in large sheets so that it can be cut to any size!

As everyone has said, you can find good deals online. Ask for a sample first, so you know what you're getting, and check shipping and handling prices.
Printing them yourself can be even more inexpensive depending on how ornate you want the invitation and whether or not you have a decent printer.
My friend recently got married. She bought the blank invites (that had pearl looking hearts around the edge). We typed them using a ready-made template in a pretty font. Then, we cut pieces of purple ribbon, tied them in a knot (so it was a simple bow), and hot glued them on the top. When you saw them you would have thought she went to a specialty card shop, and it was all cheaper than even buying some online.

You can find great deals online for invitation packages, including ensembles for about $180 for 100 invitations, all custom printed. I've seen DIY unprinted ensemble packages at hallmark or other supply stores for about $15-$25 for only 10 or 25 invitations (about $1.00) a piece.
Typically, retail stores can't offer the same discount as online stores because of their overhead (costs of running the store). The site below offers 30% off printed invitations and you can see a typical comparison of DIY versus custom printing.
Sometimes the difference is worth it. As for shipping costs, typical ground shipping for a package of $100 invitations will run between $10-15. Minimal when you are talking about a $100 savings between going to the store or ordering online.

You'll have to do some price comparisons. Sometimes you can find plain invitations for really cheap on the internet, but you will have to pay the shipping. Hallmark is a little pricey. I would suggest going to your local craft store and looking there. They have a ton of invitations you can use on your computer. CHEAP!

If you are wanting to save money, why not make your own. With just a little creativity you can make gorgeous invites.
There is some beautiful card available, in most colours. Check out the scrapbooking shops....an insert of sheer but pretty paper and a ribbon.....there are some great font styles on the computer. I dont know why more people dont make their own invites.....there is too much commercialism with weddings these days and not enough of the personal touch. I think you would probably really enjoy designing and making your own invites.

It totally depends on what you want and who you go through. You can find some really good deals if you look around online though. Hallmark tends to be a bit on the pricey side.

I bought my invitations from a website. They look like they were expensive... My only advice is if you plan on sending out 100 invitations order at least 25 more!

depends on the invitation and the site you're buying from. You'd have to research. Very cheap to buy blank invitations from AC Moore and print up yourself on your computer! They have very pretty invitations available that don't look cheap. Some even have vellum for you to print on. You can print them in your wedding colors so everything coordinates :)

Check out online stores and compare prices. I bought mine from office max and printed them off at home. I bought the reminder cards instead of their little invitation packs, it was pretty cheap.

Depends on what you want, and what online vendor you are considering. Price some out and see which way you come out the least expensive and still get something you'll be proud to send out.
