not without your consent, but if you signed a contract I hope you read the fine print cuz a lot of dentist offices are doing just that....charging for services to be done at a later date....and then not doing them because the client doesn't know to call for a follow-up. It's a scam, needs to be reported to your state attorney general.

They could charge you but you don't have to pay. There are circumstances though where a crown prep is done but has to be made at the lab and cemented in the mouth a couple of weeks later. The lab that makes the crown will have some charges to the dentist so they will charge you for that cost before you actually get the crown.

No, unless you are scheduled to have the services completed at a later date. What type of dentist does only part of a procedure? You may need to ask and find out. I have never heard of such a thing.

No they can't. Normally they will only bill when the service is finished. It could be in this case they went ahead and billing you and your insurance carrier knowing that you were coming in for the final service but that is not proper. One item that is an exception is braces. Generally they are billed in one lump sum and then a discount is offered to pay it that way or a monthly payment schedule is set up.

No, that would be considered fraud. UNLESS, they charge you first, and then to agree to complete the services later. But if they charge you in full, and the service is not complete, you need to start complaining and doing something about it. Good luck!

dentists can do whatever they want, although this is not common practice....they won't see you until you pay them in full if it's a complex problem though....i do know this....i had to pay $5000 before my procedure was completed!
