I had all four out, and it went fine - they put me under completely, when I woke up my Dad took me home, and I was back at work the next day. They gave me some extra-strength ibuprofen for pain, but since I took it on schedule I never really had any pain. The only gross part is getting used to the gap in your mouth (which fills in over time), and having to put gauze in there if any bleeding occurs. Of course you have to watch what you eat for a while so you don't irritate where the teeth were removed. Then, you go back in, they take out any stitches, and you are soon back to normal. I don't remember the exact time frame, maybe a week or so. I would suggest you go to an oral surgeon, not a dentist, for this procedure.
Hope it works out for you!

It's not going to be a walk in the park but you will get through it. I'm sure that it won't be as bad as you think. I had 4 wisdom teeth removed and had a root canal days before I got married.
After it's over, you will probably just want to sleep and that's a good thing. You will get some pain medication. It will probably take a few days before you feel better but it could be sooner than you realize. Just keep some ice on your face and relax. I think you will be ok. It's scarey but not horrible. It's definitely not as bad as you may think.

I was put to sleep for my wisdom teeth extraction. Three of the four were impacted, so much worse. All I remember is the IV and then I woke up. They prescribed me Percocets. I took one when I got home and sleep around 15 hours after that. My face was really swollen and bruised some. I really didn't have much pain unless I was eating (I hate apple sauce & mashed potatoes now BTW) or had been talking. It wasn't extreme like a lot of people had described though...

They will put you under, so you should not feel a thing. When it is over the doc will give you pain meds to take every 4 to 6 hours as needed. The worst problem is the bleeding and nausea you will have for a day or so. Good Luck!

The dentist should numb the area with Novocain. So removing your wisdom teeth will not hurt.
Bad news is that Novocain does not really help with the pain of removing abscessed teeth. Only a general anesthetic will help that pain.

the wisdom teeth should not hurt .. you may feel a small pinch with the dentist gives the shot but it only last a few moments .. (and they will rub a little swab of gel on your gums first to numb your gums before giving the shot) .. i just had 3 teeth surgically cut out and it did not hurt at all .. best wishes

I was asleep when they did it and between the pain medicine and the numbing the dentist did it didn't bother me at all. The taste of blood in my mouth was the worst part. If your abscess is hurting now you will probably feel better. I think I slept the day I had it done...then was off pain meds after a couple days.

What you're talking about is surgery. They will most likely give you an anesthetic to put you to sleep. [been there: done that]. Whether the aftermath hurts or not depends on the individual.... but don't expect there to be NO pain after wards... it's surgery!
Actually, I have also gone through what you talk about: naturally there will be soreness... just follow whatever the doctors give you, and you SHOULD be ok.

Ouch, make sure the dentist knocks you out!! Man that hurts just to think about it. You will probably feel better in about a week. When you drink anything, DO NOT use a straw, it will cause you to have dry socket and will make your gums sink down. NO SUCKING on anything, and no, I'm not being nasty.

they will probably put you to sleep for like an hour. It's not that bad. I had to get nine teeth taken out because I needed braces. It wasn't that bad. Just don't eat any hard foods for a week.
