Of course there were....however, the Messiah is to be a direct male-line descendent of King David. As Jesus, according to the Gospels, had no father, he certainly was not of the Davidic line.

There were more descendants from King David around besides Joseph and Mary. But the mayority of the jews in Jesus time were not descendants of King David. Or you think the only man having family in Juda during King David lifetime was David?

Most of the world actually. King David was a member of the tribe of Judah, one of the twelve sons of Jacob (one of the twelve tribes of Israel). While we have no way of knowing for sure, it is a reasonable assumption that the twelve tribes grew at roughly the same rate since they were formed from the sons of Jacob. Thus, only 1/12 of the Jews alive in Jesus' time were descendants of David!
...and Jews represented a small percentage of the world population. Estimates indicate that about 200 million people were alive in the first century AD...of that number, about 4 million were Jewish. Doing the math that means that just .16% (.0016) of the world population would have been descendants of King David. ...and if Jesus was descended from King David on both sides (from father by tradition and from mother by blood), the percentage of others that met that criteria would be much smaller).

They had to make a second coming of christ to fullfill the prophecies. For every place Jesus doesn't fit the prophecy, they just say...oh that is going to happen when he comes back!
In reality, Jesus does not fulfill hardly any of the prophecies given in the OT.
Problem is, the OT prophecies of the Jewish Messiah state that the Messiah is to be fully human. Just a man. A great man, but just a man.

Royal lineage is not simple descendancy, although there were others that might have made the claim. No others fulfilled even a few of the very many prophesies the Christ fulfilled.
Because of one evidence you challenge, and yet of the many evidences, an incomparable preponderance points to Christ as the Messiah.

Pick an historical person from around the eleventh century AD. Are we all descended from that person? No. So there were plenty of people at the time of Christ who were not descendants of King David.

Saul of Tarsus, who eventually became the Apostle Paul, was from the tribe of Benjamin.
All of the priests and Levites serving in the Temple were descended from Levi.

There was only one child who could fulfill all the prophecy...that was Jesus....born of a virgin, with the overpowering of the Holy Spirit...Jesus, both human and divine.
1The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
2To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
This Passage is one of the most dramatic in Scripture in my eyes. Jesus has just read from the prophet Isaiah, in the synagogue, in his home town of Nazareth. Surely most people would know who he was. He has finished his reading...
St Luke 4
"Rolling up the scroll, he handed it back to the attendant and sat down, and the eyes of all in the synagogue looked intently at him. He said to them, "Today this scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing."

MzJakes took the words right out of my mouth... the reason christians don't realize this, they take the Greek & Roman interpretation of of what Jews wrote, instead of the Jewish interpretation of what Jews wrote. I'm not worried about it. If the god of Israel is real I'm still going to heaven, even if I don't believe it's there. The Jewish version of this god doesn't care if I believe or not, just that I'm a good person. This answer isn't popular with christians, but that doesn't matter either, they aren't the judge of this question, nor do they determine my self worth. Bring on the thumbs!
