Belief or non belief in a deity has nothing to do with the functioning of your brain.

You are rationalizing to yourself that you are smart because you do not believe in God. That is a choice you made based on the facts that you find perceive truth in.

There is no definitive proof of the existence or non existence of God. It is a decision based on faith or lack of faith alone.

Free will baby!

This is actually an interesting question, and here's why:

Matthew 13:15 For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

Hear what? Salvation through Christ. It says here that to believe is to be healed. This is a healing of the mind.

1 Corinthians 1:22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.

So you see, the person who believes themselves to be "really smart" end up outsmarting themselves, for their ego demands that they be smarter than "religious" people that they perceive as being stupid.

So your own ego can be your downfall.

There are so many different attitudes toward a Higher Being. I believe that G*d is everything in all of us we are all a part. Nature is the best example. Notice how animals, birds, insects have a "flow" which runs in harmony with everything around us. No, there's nothing wrong with you, you just haven't discovered your perspective on life.

Defective.

You are, by your own admission, close minded.

A mind that is closed is not a fully functioning mind.

Sorry, but that is reality.

I believe in God, but I am OPEN to the possibility I am wrong.

That is what separates you from me.

That is not DOUBT nor lack of FAITH, it is simply being receptive to the possiblity I got all wrong.

Like it or not, you have more FAITH than I do. You are a FAITHFULL person. A very RELIGIOUS person.

I have a small factor of open-ness to the other side of the equation.

I don't give into to it, but I am OPEN to it.

I have an OPEN mind.
