Because of the things that religion causes.
See:
9/11

The Spanish Inquisition
The Holocaust
The Crusades
St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre
War in Brittany
Saxon Wars
Thirty years war

The killers in all of them were sure that they were doing the right thing, that God was on their side and wanted them to kill everyone they killed or do whatever they were doing...that's why.

Not to mention the holding back of science that it does, look at Copernicus, Galileo, and more recently Darwin and how the churches hold back scientific progress

Hey, you who said that wise crack about spell check, lemme see the last time YOU forgot to spell something correctly. That would be today. Don't be a hypocrite, please :)

i started my crusade against religion after i was woken up at 10 AM by a group of Mormon missionaries.

I am not a Mormon but i am proud that people like them believe so strongly in their religion that they are willing to go to all ends of the earth, even their hometown which Jesus said is always the hardest, just to spread the word. Way to go Mormons! If you believe it, then trying to get others to believe to is just part of religion. Invite them in, maybe you'll learn something.

well, beta_fishy, i'm going to try really hard not to be an
a sshole on this one.... but your sarcasm only makes you look like an idiot. you read someone say that christians were shoving their beleifs down his or her throat, and you took it to the extreme. wow, that's very creative. why don't you take a look at it from the other point of view? or is that some stupid "sin"? you ever think of it like this.... obviously something has happened to us to make us open our eyes and think... wow, this is a load of crap. There are atheists out there trying to get the bible out of the courthouse... for some reason you feel the need to make laws out of something no one believes in.... because again for some reason you can't comprehend that there may be people out there not brought up with your one point of view. you do realize there is a whole WORLD of people, none of which have the same experiences as you? are you so completely ignorant? i suppose you would have to be, to think such an important book could make it 2000+ years without being changed in any way. and the only answer to most of my biggest questions is "read the bible". thats just it, you cant prove the bible is all true by reading the bible. we dont fight very hard, we defend ourselves because the good majority of us are people of principles. shouldn't you be congratulating us for standing up for what we believe in?

Hey, Atheists, what about MUSLIMS. Why is always CHRISTAINS.

Muslims KILL Atheists, Christians don't

Hindus and Buddhists can care less

What are you afraid of CAR BOMBS or something. You afraid a MUSLIM will find you and come to your house with an AK 47 and kill you

Christains, you know, turn the other cheek.

What is with the PREJUDICE

MUSLIMS view ATHEISTS the same as HOMOSEXUALS

Something to be irradicated.

The fight is not against the thing that does not exist but rather against the belief in the thing that does not exist.

Why do other people's beliefs bother us?

Perhaps it is because people try to create laws based on these religious beliefs, laws that affect our lives in ways we find to be highly unnecessary.

In other words, someone else's belief in fairy tales resulted in me not being able to buy beer at 6:00 AM on a Sunday morning before a fishing trip. Why is their fairy tale belief so important that it must dictate how I live my life if I harm no one in the process?

Attempts to legislate from the Churches, Mosques, and Synnagogues DO exist. This is worth fighting against.

i beg to disagree with "postalman"
u see, if religions were made to be kept to one's self, how would this world hear the word of GOD?. He wants us to share what we know of him and influence others to do good. I hope u will one day realize how mean it is to disgrace our GOD's name. I was once like you, you know. I hated HIM but he will always find a way to get back at you so that you will seek his face. He loves us. and HE is just waiting. He can never and will never dissapoint you like you do him.

You make it seem like I have temper tantrums over this matter. I simply do not believe in a God nor care if there is one. If people wish to say there is one, fine. It doesn't mean my opinion will change.

Because propagating a fairytale at the expense of reality comes at a very high price. We need people to excel and produce excellence... not spend time bowing and groveling before some imaginary tyrant.
