well, I doubt there's anyway to get an exact number of how many people speak spanish. However, if you consider the number of people in the U.S. alone who speak spanish, that's a relatively high # of people. & Ofcourse, there is Mexico where just about everyone speaks spanish. There is also Spain where spanish is the fluent language. You can also consider France, you may not imagine that they would speak Spanish, however in French school, Spanish is a required language course.
All in all, if you consider each country & the language that is spoken, you will come to find that there are MANY people in this world who speak (or understand) spanish.

Over 350 million as first language speakers, plus a load more that speak it as a second/third etc. language. As a first language, Spanish has now overtaken English, although English is still regarded as the No. 1 international language.
Mandarin Chinese has the most first language speakers in the world.
