Why does the pope wear so many different hats and dresses?

Is he like the Queen who has a different outfit for every occasion?

Don't forget his cool little "popemobile".
The queen doesn't have one of those.

He always wears a white cassock (simple robe), just as Jesus did. And on public occasions he always wears a miter, the "hat" that is symbolic of his office as bishop, not specifically as Pope. When he celebrates Mass, he wears the same vestments that any priest wears for Mass.
