The pilot model remained tough and didn't lose a bit of its attractivity, but it could easily have been somewhat more frivolous. It was BlingBling before the term became popular.

The terms Blingbling and avant la lettre are expressions in their own right (you can use them untranslated in english and dutch). Blingbling is the culture of tacky shining jewelry and accessories (as long as it glitters), starting on the afro scene but ow popular worldwide. It's in Dutch...but this sentence, 'Bling-bling avant la lettre' is in French. I can't help you with the Dutch, but I know that avant la lettre is a French idiom, it means before the term (or phrase) existed. Bling-bling is an English slang, the term refers to expensive things like jewelery and such.

"Bling bling" actually is just supposed to be the sound platinum makes when it clinks together. It's not supposed to mean jewelry. So, that's all I can answer, just the Ebonics part of the paragraph!
