We do NOT assume that all muslims are terrorists.
We just want the ones who arn't to help us fight the ones who are.

Some people point to some muslims who have committed terrorist actions and declare that all muslims are terrorists. First of all, this is an error in logic. Second of all, there are christians who have committed terroristic acts. Abortion clinic bombers, people who attack homosexuals, and even some of the efforts of the military in Iraq show that christians can commit terroristic acts. However, this does not mean that all christians are terrorists. By the same token, not all muslims are terrorists.

Some people practice religious supremacy. Just like race supremacy, but instead these people believe that those of their religion are superiour to other people. The people who declare all muslims terrorists are trying to make it seem like that a muslim person is not capable of peaceful life. Therefore, the muslim person is inferiour to the christian person. If you look in history, you can see how white supremacists have tried to do the same argument with other races. For instance, calling all blacks incapable living morally is common among white supremacists. The religion supremacists are just using these tired, old tactics to try to push their cause.

Only if you are going to argue that all muslims are, in fact, terrorists. Otherwise it's a foregone conclusion that nobody truly believes that they are.

If on the other hand you're going to argue that we don't have the right to make the assumption, that would be a good subject too, because everyone would naturally assume that we all have the right to decide or assume anything we want.

In other words, if you want to make an argument that is counter to what everyone else in the class believes and holds dear, then you should go ahead. If your point was to say that we don't have that right, then that's just nutty enough to be interesting.

Nothing. The people who assume all Muslims are terrorist are either scapegoating or aren't smart enough to not stereotype and categorize every person out there.

So yes, I think you could definitely do a persuasive essay on this. One thing you may want to bring up is that radical Christians have been responsible for abortion clinic bombings and also the Atlanta Olympics bombing (Eric Randolph bombed the Olympics to protest the legalization of abortion and has bombed abortion clinics in the past), but most Americans will either deny that all Christians are terrorists or that radical Christians have taken part in any sort of terroristic activities.

It might be a very good topis...depend on what you will be trying to persuade people on. Lots of people here have made comments like past experience, or what you observe other religions doing. Let us not forget that not really that long before this latest rise in terrorism in the middle east, our nightly television news was filled with Belfast and terrorism between Catholic and Protestant. Looking at history, you can find terrorist tactics everywhere. It's not a new kind of tactic...it's just packaged differently (and don't forget, our Israeli allies were, at one time, deemed terrorists when they were fighting against the british).

It's a great topic, though. Depending on your scope, it could be huge, though. Good luck!

I don't !!!!! and if any one does they need to address there issues..i think its out of order that some people think this way...i can understand why, but to say all Muslims are terrorists is crazy this is a free world and every one has there own rights to what they believe in and worship, who's to say that the Western way of living and thinking should apply to the rest of the world.....there are some pretty nasty people out there...it is a select few how commit these stupid pointless acts... i have 2 good Muslim friends i work with and they have explained in details what the terrorist believe and if you read up on it..its a pile of piss...my mates are cool people... family people,... hard working people...so any one who thinks this is so small minded and needs a good kick in the balls!!!

Nothing. Human ignorance , stupidity and their concept that humans are the epitome of existance?

Let's not forget, then, Muslims are - GASP- people!!!

So, NO, we do not have the right to assume or judge, though we do out of ignorance. Only God or whatever the great creator is called has the actual RIGHT to judge. We have the right to our own opinions, but to lump all muslims into ONE group is a dispicable mistake. That is like saying all Christians are judgement free and kind, when we KNOW damn well that ALOT of people who call themselves Christian are the BIGGEST judges and the BIGGEST hypocrites, the MOST prejudiced and LEAST tolerant....TOTALLY UN CHRIST-LIKE!!!(WOW...would Jesus be pissed, or what?)
Are all black people Ghetto? Hell, NO
Are all witches into blackmagic? **** no....most witches are GOOD people....less judgemental and MORE peaceful
Are all Native Americans Casino Building Land Mongers? (Um..no....I'm part Iroquois and I am unaware of the land I MIGHT be able to claim somewhere in upstate NY...nor do I really care...)
Don't listen to what these people say. .....Yes, HORRIBLE tragedies by HORRIBLE people. If you ask me, I think the US government knew about the whole thing!

The Unibomber and Columbine incidents Had NOTHING to do with Islam, So those who tried to use that as anexcuse, it may be their way ofjustifying ignorance...
People suck, I know, but be glad that you even had the mental capacity to ponder the morality of this kind of prejudice. That makes youbetter than these Closed minded hypocrites. Good luck on your essay, whatever you feel about the question. Just remember, Bombing for peace is like F.u.c.k.i.n.g. for virginity.

Well, the title contains an unfounded assumption.

I don't assume all Muslims are terrorists, but I think that Islam has a bad track record of inspiring a disturbing percentage of believers to violence.

Put it this way: Would you take a pain killer or supplement that was advertised as almost completely safe because it only kills 1% of the people who take it?

I'd do the essay about stereotypes and use Muslims as an example. I've written a lot of essays and speeches before and I've found that if you use a less specific subject then you tend to write more. But it's your choice.

Anyway, it's just a stereotype...there is no reason why we should assume anything like that. It's just bad nature.

Yes. This is a good topic. You will get to research on Islam and you will gain so much insight in to the whole thing.
A strong point you can make is in the past there have been so many killings in the name of Christianity, but that does not mean that all Christians are bad. Example, destruction of mesoamerica and other countries which they invaded.

Make sure you also include political interest of the West.

People have the right to assume whatever they want.
Having said that, a little observation of world events might help you. I don't see Buddhists or Wiccans strapping on bombs and blowing up buildings, do you?
I don't say that ALL Muslims are terrorists, but I DO say that most terrorists are Muslims and that Islam influences people to be terrorists more than other belief systems do.
