even though i have it checked in the options box for formatting tool. i am driving myself crazy :(

Hi,

Welcome to the Mac side!

The formatting palette is "context sensitive" which is the computer nerd way of saying that the palette only displays choices that are appropriate for whatever kind of object is selected.

For example, the only time the rotation tool is on the palette is when an object that can be rotated (picture, clip art , text box, etc) is currently selected. That way the palette is not cluttered with tools that are not able to be used at the moment.

Windows PowerPoint tried to copy this behavior (not successfully, unfortunately) with Task panes and the new "ribbon" in Office 2007. But so far the Mac formatting palette is years ahead.

You can also turn on the old drawing toolbar (View > Toolbars > Drawing) which is still available on Mac PowerPoint.
