The Air Force is top heavy; that is, such a large percentage of people are officers. Most of the MOSs are safe; if you are a fighter pilot, or similar, not so safe.
I joined the Army, working in the Pentagon and lastly in the J.A.G. Office, so fairly safe (as Army goes; although when stationed in Korea with the Viet Nam War going on and the North Koreans saber rattling there was certainly potential...). The thing of it is, Air Force DOES NOT go out to the field; even an old person can pass their PT test; they are pretty laid back; there are plenty of opportunities; they do value education (unlike the Army).
I do not know, however, how much of a chance you would have to get the position you want or the location (base) you want, but I do know it is much better than in the Army. Also, because I live next to an Air Force Base, I do know that they often stay at the same base for up to 10 years, instead of 1 - 3 as the Army does. They also relocate Airmen based upon the needs of the Airman and/or his family.
I say, check it out thoroughly, make a good chart or packet, and sell your g/f if it is still your choice.
Besides, after 20 years, you can get a retirement and look for another job if that is your druthers.
One of my brothers joined the Army National Gurard/Army Reserve; one joined the Air Force; 2 joined the Navy and retired; I joined the Army, but it was mostly fun!

First of all do you really know what your getting into? I will refresh your memory. 1.) you want to be Security forces 12 hour shifts of standing in front of a bunker or if you are really lucky in a patrol car. 2.) the usaf college is a ccaf degree and means nothing on the outside all it means is that you can make chief or senior if you can put up with the BS security forces is not the field to try to do 20 years. Yes you will get the GI bill but there are stipulations as to how much money you can use at once and if you plan on going to school afterwards It will really only pay for school full time for 3 years. The BX or PX a mall LOL one more time LOL more like a general store there stock is old at most bases and the only time you really save money from the tax free thing is on things like ps3 big screen tv's computers anything 1G and up. How is this possible? well yes you don't pay sales tax but there is a surcharge wich makes it about the same price and sometimes more. Pros: ........ well after your girlfriend breaks up with you or you cheat on her you will have plenty of money to waste on beer and TV's. Also you will be living in the dorms unless you get your girlfriend to marry you and in the dorms you are not allowed to have people living with you so that means that she will have to move off base and get an apartment then you will have to pick her up drive her on base to spend some time with her. (Other options) The point to all this is read the fine print and every thing it says it means verbatim. So be really careful is all I am saying.

First off now matter what anybody says the Air Force is the best branch- you get better housing then anybody else and the bases are usually nicer. I'm an ROTC cadet, but I grew up enlisted, so here's the downlow from one of my friends who is an MP. Times will be hard, but it will be worth it. Possibly getting station @ Minot AFB is a bad thing or so I've been told because there is nothing to do there. But you could be station @ Hickam AFB in Hawaii someday and surf while off duty. You'll possibly get shot @ but hey that's part of being a cop. The instructors will be hard, but hey this is the military and it's only for a little bit. Also being that I'm a girl just tell your girlfriend that this is your dream and if she is a good girlfriend then she'll understand and also there are perks like going to an Air Force Ball and things like that and tax-free shopping and of course free health care which are all the good perks that I still use thanks to my dad.
Good luck

Go for it!! Pro - the opportunities are amazing. The experience is one that you will never be offered again. By the time your gf realizes what a good idea it is you will be too old to join. My son is currently Army NG Reserve. He loves it. He is an Army medic, and NJ state licensed EMT and is now going to college (paid for by the army) to be a Forensic Nurse. Without the army there is no way I could have sent him to a good college. He would've had to settle for a Community College. Remember your gf may not be there forever but your experience will. If she can stop being selfish for 5 minutes she may realize where this will start you in life.
Hoo ha!!

Pick a girlfriend who supports your longtime dreams, not dreams that appeal to your girlfriend.
If you want a CCAF degree in criminal justice, that's achievable. I don't know how helpful it would be in a civilian career, and I don't even know that the experience would help...civilian law enforcement and military law enforcement are separate animals. Do you want to be a civilian cop eventually, or a career SFS guy?
Best wishes to you, whatever you decide.

Me being an ex army guy the best thing to tell her that the military will provide the best foundation for a relationship, tell her the benefits you could get, and the benefits she could get if you two where married. But I will tell you now it is hard to keep a girl friend when you are miles away or deployed over sea's

pros's: you get to be in the air force which is almost the same as living in the civilian world. you get to live in the best barracks and eat in the best chow halls the military has to offer. you get to shop in mall like px's. you get to use words like "dude" and "chill" while in the presence of your superiors.
cons: other people in the military know this and will respect you accordingly.

If it's been a long time dream of yours, that's all your g/f needs to hear. And if she doesn't like it, tough.
It's your life, live your dream.
