Honest, Practical, Humanatarian, Peaceful and loving people. I have read both the Bible and Quran therefore it is quite strange for me to see Atheists being close to the lives and qualities Jesus and Muhammed then the theists.

Jesus once said "My friends, what good is it to say you have faith, when you don't do anything to show that you really do have faith? Can that kind of faith save you? If you know someone who doesn't have any clothes or food, you shouldn't just say, "I hope all goes well for you. I hope you will be warm and have plenty to eat." What good is it to say this, unless you do something to help? Faith that doesn't lead us to do good deeds is all alone and dead"

Muhammed once said "Do not say, that if the people do good to us, we will do good to them; and if the people oppress us, we will oppress them; but determine that if people do you good, you will do good to them; and if they oppress you, you will not oppress them."
Is it normal to feel ashamed to be theist?

Although I agree with you about the atheists you should never be ashamed... it should just challenge you to be a better person. Whether youre religous or not, that is the basic intent. The frustration I have seen about religion and the religous isnt their beliefs so much as their lack of practice of those beliefs.
Be proud, be good.

The problem with Christianity, from the beginning probably, is that people who ally with an institution, will often do mainly what it takes to "belong" to the institution, and not worry too much about "inner reality" (which can hardly be defined or discerned anyway). So Jesus came out early on to say, "You must be born again." Making the most radical assessment possible of a new life. Not just a little change here and there.
Not just a dazzling smile. Instead, "Re-born." Love Jesus (God) with all heart, mind, and strength. Not so easy. But not hard either.

It's you, my dear. Unless you have some sort of statistical proof, it is mere conjecture and speculation. In general, generalizations should be avoided at all costs.

Don't forget that Jesus also said that we ALL sin and fall short. We are all human and cannot, no matter HOW much we try, measure up. We try... we certainly try!

Make a deal with you... stop lumping all "theists" together, and we'll stop lumping all "atheists" together. Sound like a deal to you?

Have a blessed day!

Thanks, as others have said, for your kind words.

As an atheist, I am aware that I am in a global minority, that people who know may judge my character, my child-raising skills, my economic status, and whatever else they feel like, in that light.

I've also been able to find common understanding and creative ways toward progress with people of different faiths. Many have never met avowed atheists before, and are surprised at the lack of horns or more subtle outward signs.

It's been said before, but the only thing atheists have in common is the lack of belief in a deity. There are good ones and bad ones, peacemakers and warmongers, humanitarians and criminals.

Just as being an atheist does not mean a person is immoral, it doesn't mean that they are moral, either.

We have ver batum accounts of what these people said thousands of years ago yet no one was there with pen & paper (or clay tablet) to write it down. Do you really believe that no religion has ever changed things around to serve their agenda? History shows that the believers have killed over 100 million people in the name of God. Atheists never fly airplanes into buildings and say, "We are doing it for God". The real holocaust is the death toll from religion/sectarian violence but it is swept under the carpet.

Hi....

An Honest and Interesting question.....

I find this amusing.....

If an atheist dies and 'does' go to heaven, surely he/she would realise they were wrong, apologise for not believing and be let in?

On the other hand, someone who 'does' believe in 'god', but has been bad or sinned, will 'not' be allowed in heaven, because he/she 'knew' about 'god' and 'knew' he/she shouldnt have sinned, but still did!?

Atheists mainly are very nice, inteligent people, so although the religious keep 'judging' and stating that: 'atheists will go to hell' ....

Who is the 'one' to judge and 'who' will be the one judged?

Thank you.

Not that it's deserved or anything. I'm still a capitalist bastard, an "Incarnatrix of Evil", a diserspectful jerk, and an ignorant fool. Those are probably closer to the truth than what you've said.

It's you.

You haven't surveyed the Answers R&S community, so your impressions are influenced by your prejudices.

Maybe I'm wrong - if you've got a survey that a) determines whether the person is actually an atheist or theist and b) determines whether the person's post indicates a personality that is/is not like Jesus or Mohammed, I'd like to see it.

Frankly, I think you're trolling.

EDIT: WOOT! Keep the thumbs down coming! You obviously didn't want an answer to your non-question. You just wanted people to agree with you.

I'm an Atheist for the simple reason that there's no proof that any 'god' exists. But i stress the positive by calling myself a Secular humanist; it's better than defining myself by something i don't believe in.

Stress the positive.

Thanks for that. I'm not sure i would compare myself to jesus, but I agree that since we atheists don't believe in faith to save us or in prayer to do anything, we tend to be more realistic about doing things instead of hoping that some god will intervene. Don't just pray for the poor, but donate clothes and food, or make any effort to help in the real world.
