Two reasons:
1) Creations Groan - All creation is eagerly waiting for Jesus Christ to return and remove the curse that was placed on it when man fell.
"...For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now." (Romans 8:19-22)
2) God Sends Judgement in the Form of a Natural Disaster - It's true...in certain cases God will send judgements in order to bring His creation back to him.
(2 Chronicles 7, Joel 1-2, Amos, many more)
So, "why doesn't God prevent earthquakes, volcano and hurricane deaths?" Because that would be contrary to what He wants...if He prevented His own stirrings, that would be a waste of time...He is sending and allowing judgements to come to the earth so you and I would turn to Him. (2 Chronicles 7:14, Joel 2:13-14) He is after the hearts of His creation. If we still choose to reject Him, He is not phased, He will work ALL things for the good of those who trust Him. (Romans 8:28)
Look at things from the perspective of eternity...the 70-80 years you spend on this peanut called "earth" is a vapor, so while we are busy running and building and planning, the King of the Universe is waiting for you to accept His invitation of eternal life with Him! You can only say no so many times before your time runs out...whether it is due to natural causes or a hurricane, you will die. And what will your life show? Did you spend it building your own little kingdom or co-laboring for His?

All of the things that you have mentioned are natural disasters. They are a part of nature just as we are. All living things go through a course of events, life and death to keep the Earth stable. Humans, just as other living beings are included in this process. I'm not claiming to have all the answers or even one that is good enough but I believe that God has a purpose for ever living being on this Earth and that people die exactly when they are meant to.
You don't ask why God prevents deer from being eaten by wolves or prevents whales from beaching after a tidal wave. Isn't that the same vein?
This was a very hard, very BIG question. I'm just not sure if I am one who should have tried to answer it.

This morning, you did not believe that God existed. Now, you want God to save earthquake, volcano and hurricane victims? When did you start believing in God? Did you have an epiphany during lunch?

Because he either 1. does not care 2. does not exist or 3. the ridiculous notion that god is trying to teach us something. If that's the case, what am I going to learn if I die in a hurricane. If I go to hell I have no chance of using any of the knowledge I supposedly gained. If I go to heaven then I was already righteous and I didn't need to be taught a lesson.

Sometimes these natural diseasters are judgements upon the earth, sometimes there not. Man is sinful, God allows these things to happen to help man keep in perspective of just how frail and weak he is. We are all made in Gods image, He loves us very much, read John 3:16, but God judges sin, with no respector of persons. Besides, it is up to you if you live in an area where hurricanes or volcano's are at, God didn't make you or anybody else live there, as for earthquakes, well there are areas more prone to them than others, obviously CA is one. Remember also, when Jesus came to earth he was a perfect man but they crucified him just the same, God the father didn't have to do that but he allowed it so Jesus would be a perfect sacrifice for our sins on the cross. Do you believe in Jesus, Have you ever been saved, I can show you how if you believe, just say Dear Jesus I just pray right now that you forgive me of all my sins and come into my heart and save me. I believe that you came to earth and died on a cross, and then rose from the grave the third day to be a perfect sacrifice for my sins. I willingly give my life to you and promise to serve you with all my heart. Please make me one of your children in the name of Jesus I pray Amen... If you Prayed this Prayer with a sincere heart truly believing in Jesus you are now a child of the King. Praise the Lord, If you have any questions please feel free to send me an email, May God Bless You

We live in a physical world and evil runs this world for the time being. There are laws of cause and effect, that's just how it is. Why doesn't he intervene? Well do you really want god to come in and take away your free will? Everybody'd have a fit wouldn't they, because they would have to follow the rules always. The truth is everybody wants Him to come stop the rapes, murders, natural disasters, but no one wants him stepping in when they want to have sex with their girlfriend, or because they hate the person who killed their father or the guy who raped their 8 yr old sister,or daughter. Hate, revenge and fornication are just as bad murder, rape or not caring for the planet you live on. Negative energy in this world and pollution is what is destroy our planet. We are doing it, we are responsible, we live with the consequences.

hmm...dude, it's preety simple. THERE IS NO GOD... not like the Church wants you to belive anyway... They just WANT YOU to be a good little ant, not to kill, steal and rape...so they can controll you better. It's kind of a motivation to be good. It's in your OWN VANITY and feeling superior that you WANT to be life after death...it's the biggest compliment you can make yourself...I LIVE FOREVER... no dude, you don't...but if everybody would realise this, CHAOS would come down on Earth. We're selfish little animals...and we don't get along with what we need....we always want more... It's life a fairytale you belived when you were a kid...like Santa or flying around like a bird... IT'S NOT GONNA happen. You can have any faith you want it's still futile. It's like trying to convince a tribe from Africa that the plane you landed with it's not GOOOD it's something human made....You could never do it.... HE WANTS TO BELIVE it's not.... it's WHAT it has been tought to him....and just like that GOD is tough to you.....

He who has ears to hear, let him hear -
Luke 13:1-9 NAU Luke 13:1 Now on the same occasion there were some present who reported to Him about the Galileans whose blood (a)Pilate had 1)mixed with their sacrifices. 2 And Jesus said to them, "(a)Do you suppose that these Galileans were greater sinners than all other Galileans because they suffered this fate? 3 "I tell you, no, but unless you (1)repent, you will all likewise perish.
4 "Or do you suppose that those eighteen on whom the tower in (a)Siloam fell and killed them were worse (1b)culprits than all the men who live in Jerusalem? 5 "I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish."
6 And He began telling this parable: "A man had (a)a fig tree which had been planted in his vineyard; and he came looking for fruit on it and did not find any. 7 "And he said to the vineyard-keeper, 'Behold, for three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree (1)without finding any. a)Cut it down! Why does it even use up the ground?' 8 "And he answered and said to him, 'Let it alone, sir, for this year too, until I dig around it and put in fertilizer; 9 and if it bears fruit next year, fine; but if not, cut it down.'"

We can understand why natural disasters occur. What we do not understand is why God allows them to occur. Why did God allow the tsunami to kill over 225,000 people in Asia? Why did God allow Hurricane Katrina to destroy the homes of hundreds of thousands of people? What we can know is this…God is good! There are many amazing miracles, in instances of natural disaster, that occurred - preventing an even greater loss of life. Natural disasters cause millions of people to reevaluate their priorities in life. Hundreds of millions of dollars in aid is sent to help the people that are suffering. Christian ministries have the opportunity to help, minister, counsel, pray - and lead people to saving faith in Christ! God can, and does, bring great good out of terrible tragedies (Romans 8:28).
And for the record..I lost my home to Katrina....We don't blame God for it.......a lot of people who die in disasters, bring it on themselves, because they have the warning and refuse to leave,,,for whatever reason, especially in hurricanes....they don't come on you suddenly,,,you have plenty of time to get out. Material things can be replaced....but people stay to guard them, anyway...insane!
And has there ever been anything more stupid than a drunken, Hurricane Party?....

I can't believe ths sheer stupidity I'm seeing here.
"punish the unrighteous"
do you have a statistic somewhere that shows that it was only unrighteous that died in any of those events, only non-religious people died in hurricane katrina?
How about even a statistic that shows that the majority of them were?
I really don't understand how people can believe this crap.
