Or maybe something else?
May I borrow a line from "Nights it White Satin"?
We get to choose, what is real .........and what is an illusion.

Deep inside every one is cosmic.
Outer veil over this cosmic could be anything from Good to evil. Wrapper of a gift is given more importance than the gift by worldly people.
However when one cross the barrier of rational mind one knows what is real? and what is illusion?

We are seekers.
We seek ourselves.
If I think I've found truth and share it no one will believe it.
If I find truth and live it then in time everyone will know this truth.
Just as we all have monkey minds full of chatter the world is full of voices telling us what is real.
We all know real when we are fortunate enough to find it.
It seems there's always a war exactly on the other side of the earth from me. It seems the more people are crammed together and push each other away the faster the universe expands. I know from the perspective of others that my views aren't popular but we find what we seek so of course my views aren't welcomed. I'm lucky to believe there are some that see past the illusion so I find these few. If only I could easily change my faith about everything as easily. I'm learning the lessons at my own pace. I and therefore we will get there in time. So long as even one person suffers I have things to learn. I see the world has improved a great deal in my life, just as my understanding has improved.
Isn't it all so very cool!
EDIT:
ॐcosmicॐ bodhiboy!
Not two!
It makes me have goosebumps. I have the mantra I have long sought!

Both.
Our cosmic natures is what makes sin abhorrent. We all want the light to shine within... but doing wrong endarkens us, and takes away our joy.
Through Christ we are set free from wrongs we cannot avoid while we walk the path that increases our cosmic awareness... ie the light within. We borrow light from Him till we have enough of our own. That is God's compassion.
Sin is not an illusion... but the idea that we are unworthy because of sin is an illusion. Faith is the answer. We can reach for greater and greater light, until we reach the perfect day. We are definitely cosmic...
I think you would like this song (unfortunately, I can't include the music due to copyright restrictions - it is glorious music!):

Our belief that we are all sinners IS the great lie. We really don't get to choose what is real or not real, but we do have free will that enables us to either accept reality or not, & our belief in it may make it seem very real. What we are is far more than most can accept. Collectively we are the son of our Father, the illusion is to think that anything created by the Father {or Goddess, Mother, Allah, Cosmic or any other name you prefer} could ever really be damaged, changed, or defiled. Most people think they must make us very small & powerless to do proper homage to God. But the truth is that nothing created by our Father in his imagine is powerless. In this finite form I'm not sure it is possible to really grasp our reality, but we will, together as one.

I'd say cosmic. After all the very atoms that make up our bodies may once have been the atoms of a star or a planet or even a nebula. And i believe that our very souls are created by the joining of the many forces within our universe. So whether you look at it from a scientific perspective or a spiritual perspective we are all cosmic.

See Forrest Gump. Is it Mom or Lieutenant Dan that's right? Also note in same film the moment of truth at his buddy Bubba's death which is a "remake" by the director of la Pieta. The point is, I think that moments of blinding truth give rise to the creation of great things, as love creates birth (or at least that's the way it's supposed to work). Most of us end up so hungry for Love we end up settling, and doing some dreaming or cheating in our spare time. Hooray for Sex and the City and Monday Night Football. Oops. Guess I'm showing my age.

May I borrow lines from "The Song of Faith in the Heart"?
The Living Truth is not difficult
for those who have no preferences.
When grabbing and pushing away are both absent
everything is clear and undisguised.
Make the smallest distinction, however, and heaven and earth are set infinitely apart....
The more you talk and think about it,
the further you wander from the truth....
In this world of suchness
there is neither self nor other-than-self.
To come directly into harmony with this reality
just say "not two".
In this "not two" nothing is separate,
nothing is excluded....
Don’t waste time in doubts and arguments
That have nothing to do with this....
To live in this realization
is to be without anxiety about non-perfection.

We are ignorant. We don't know where we came from and most of us don't even bother to think where we're going to! Sometimes that means we do some terribly stupid things. We may well shape our lives but because we don't know our spiritual backside from our spiritual elbow the only shape our lives take is excrement.
The best way of becoming cosmic is to learn about Buddhism and practice ethics and meditation.

We are all cosmic sinners! I couldn't resist. =D
I haven't read any of the answers, but I'll venture in on this one... a little clueless heading in!
"My" take on this is that we "just are". We are the original "divine puppets" pulling our own strings!
The 'karmic patterns' repeat themselves until there is a realization that we can influence the movement by not attending to the same programmed thoughts.
It seems suffering is the gauge...the final wake up call. When one has suffered enough, there is a sigh of release (often at the death of the body). This release allows for the "miraculous" to enter in. The imagined burdens are lifted.
Those few who die, while living, walk in freedom from the mind's torment.

Neither. No matter how much people want to believe in this ultimate duality as the choice, they are both ludicrous.
We are an evolving species that childishly projects its defects onto each other and attributes onto governments, deities or the cosmos. Our brain development and consciousness has simply outstripped science's ability to understand it's capacity and how it does what it does. I expect we'll catch up sooner or later. The adepts and gifted among us simply point the way forward.
We DON'T get to 'choose' what is real and what is illusion, we have to learn to 'discern' and be willing to give up our ego delusions. Why? Because our multi-dimensional reality mirrors the contents of consciousness.
