this just doesn't seem like the work of someone who is fair and just and loving. take for example the offspring of an incestuous relationship. children are more likely to be born with health defects than those whose parents are not related. also consider crack babies. they're born addicted to crack. or how about babies born with aids? why didn't god design us to be born without these burdens? shouldn't the punishment lie with the parents of these babies and not the babies? can you honestly say this is fair? how in your right mind can you justify this as being fair? seriously. especially when you consider that all sin is equal in god's eyes. these babies should be punished no more than if they were born with parents whose only sins were thoughts of lust and the occasional breaking of the sabbath. yet, because their parents sinned in such a way, they have to carry that burden with them for the rest of their lives.

no offense new wellness, but i think that is by far the dumbest thing i've ever heard... so crack babies choose to be born addicted to crack. are you seriously that deluded?

monte, i'm talking about the babies. you don't think someone is being punished to have to be born in a disadvantaged situation like being born without arms and legs. why don't you let someone cut your limbs off and go a day like that?

God isn't punishing anyone. Sin brings its own punishment. If you stay out in the sun too long and burn is the sun punishing you? Man's actions bring their own consequences.

I think it's karma coming back. Maybe those babies did something horrible in a previous life, so now they have to deal with the consequences. It's every action having an equal and opposite reaction. Person A does something bad to Person B, now something bad happens to Person A.
And I can guarantee you this: a whole bunch of christian people are going to answer this post saying some nonsense like, "It's god's plan."
And to that I say, if you can't come up with a REAL answer, then don't say anything. But don't give me some generic answer that just shows how brainwashed you are. Go off of something more than just blind faith.

So, if a man commits a crime such as murder and is caught and goes to jail and is then unable to support his family and his family suffers because of it......then it is God's fault. Someone smokes crack and now God is unfair. At what point do people take responsibility for their own actions and acknowledge the effects those actions have on their children?

Like many others and certain Bibles you have erroneously translated the Hebrew for 'visit upon' as 'punish'. 'Visit upon' is the correct translation: Exodus 20:5: '... You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me ...' This translation is consistent with Ezekiel 18:20: '... Only the one who sins shall die. The son shall not be charged with the guilt of his father, nor shall the father be charged with the guilt of his son.
So you are not punished for your ancestors' sins but you can suffer the consequences of their sins.

The is one of the reasons I left christianity. To say that I was born a sinner is stupid. To say that I inherited the sins of the father is a joke. Then they should kill off all kids that had a father of ancestor that fought against god in any way shape of form.
It is a simple form of control, to say that you are already a sinner is a guarnteed way to torment you with heavan and hell.

That's exactly how sin affects others. Go through the Ten Commandments and tell us how any of them affect only the sinner. Jesus stated in His summary of the Ten Commandments that we are to love God and our neighbors as ourselves. What about this can you NOT get when it comes to taking care of each other? Sin, not God, causes problems. Period. You can't for one second try to deny it.

So refreshing to see someone so willing to accuse God.

What is sin, really? Is it not where we either harm ourselves or others?

What would you and others learn if God removed the effects of sin? Would you learn the lessons? No, you would not.

Apparently, you think people can learn through osmosis.

Well you shouldn't blame God for the actions of His own creations. It is the person themselves that need to think before they reek the consequences of the actions. For it is not God's fault for why these things happen. He gave us all a choice. A choice to follow His Word and way of life.

God is inconsistent, and seems to have lapses in memory and judgement. Seems strange from the omniscient, the omnipotent.

Fact: The God of Christianity is too small, and too human to be a reality.

The Christian and Jewish religions can be pretty barbaric...so stay away from them if you want to be safe. Good luck. I will pray for you and the rest of the religious lunatics.
