Everyone has "free will"....not just Christians. Just because something tries to influence your decision in a certain direction doesn't mean that you have to choose accordingly. Advertising is a powerful tool....yes, it does work or it wouldn't continue to exist. However, you can choose not to listen to it, choose to critically Analise it, or not to believe it, and thereby not be influenced by it. That is what "free will" is....the freedom to choose whatever you wish despite whatever anyone else may say or do to you. We may have genes that make a certain destructive lifestyle very hard to resist, but it has been proved time and again that God can and does give us the power to make better choices. Satan can and does do everything in his power to dominate our free will, but God never does that.....he presents his evidence, assures us of his love, and leaves us to choose however we will. Our freedom may be taken away physically, but no one can take away your freedom to choose how you will respond to it or anything else that comes your way.
Jessy, God doesn't choose some and not others. He says he is not willing that any should perish.....he wants all of us to be with him forever. However, because he "knows the end from the beginning", he knows how we will choose. Jesus knew when he cried over Jerusalem what it's fate would be....he didn't cause it or want it.....he just knew. Likewise, he knows all about us and what we will choose. The amazing thing is that he still loves us just the same, even though he knows some of us will not choose him.

I firmly belive that we all have free will. If we didn't have free will, there would be no such thing as sin. However, I don't think you have a clear understanding of what free will is, or you're confusing it with will "power". Free will is the power of independent action and choice.
Someone else "can" affect your free will, but you ultimately have the power to either "let them" or "not let them", depending on your will power. Advertisements don't have the leverage to try to force anyone to do anything like someone holding a gun to your head. Although, even if someone was holding a gun to your head in an attempt to force you to do something you object to, you still have the "free will" to choose not to do it, although you'd be shot for making that particular choice.

If you want an answer from the bible then here it is. 1) Genesis 18:20 - Here God plainly says the He had to go down to Sodom and Gomorrah to see for Himself whether or not the complaint about them was TRUE OR NOT. If God had already knew what they were doing why would he have to go see for Himself. 2) Here is another, Jeremiah 32:35 - God says He did not command them to pass their children through the fire, He says it never come up into his heart to do this terrible thing. So it seems to me that the people are doing this thing of their on free will. Have a great day.

There's a big difference in "influence" and "control." My choices as a Christian are "influenced" by my belief, but I still have the capability of going outside that belief and choose to do otherwise. On the secular side, I have seen many commercials promoting hybrid vehicles. Haven't bought one, ain't goin' to! "Cause if I'm in traffic and happen to be run into by a bicycle, I want to be driving something that won't crumple like a beer can! Advertising can't "make" you do anything you don't want to do.

Yes you have free will but something does cause your decision. You think about what you are going to do and the consequences of what will happen when you make a decision.
If you have a hole in your roof you have the free will to either fix it to protect your family or not fix it and just let the rain come in.

Yes.
Advertising doesn't work on me. I buy whatever is cheapest. I don't buy things I don't need like trash can liners, or IPods, no matter how much advertising tells me to do so.
As a Christian, I make a decision day by day, sometimes minute by minute, to follow what I perceive as God's will instead of any of the more expedient options. This is what makes me a Christian and not just a fundamentalist.

This is, or seems to be, an interesting question, thousands of years old even.
Obviously, we can, if we have the means and the courage, do anything we want - good or bad.
An Omniscient being should know already what you are going to do, but that takes the fun out of it, doesn't it?
The argument of free will is really a struggle to try and understand our consciousness and it's limits.
And that struggle is still going on.

We have free will. The story of Adam and Eve is an example of free will in operation. It doesn't tell how mankind came into existence but is a parable of our relationship with God.
Adam was free to pick the fruit or leave it. God preferred him to leave it (because he could see the difficulties eating it would bring for man) but Adam chose to pick and eat it; thus revealing mankind's tendency to do what he wants rather than what God would like. It is clear that God allows free will since there was no compulsion even after Adam ignored God's wishes. This was even before Jesus came.
However, there have been many people since who, in their enthusiasm to bring God to people, try to manipulate them into the faith. The only true faith is one into which we come ourselves of our own free will; having considered all the ins and outs of it.

Of course we have free will. I choose to be a Christian. God doesn't hold a gun to anyone's head. We make decisions every day, but we should pray and ask God for direction to make the right decision. In the end, it's our decision to make.

Yes we have a freewill. That is one thing God can't change. We have the choice of choosing Him or rejecting Him in our lives. People everyday influence the choices we make. That's why God said, "Bad company corrupts good morals." We need to spend time with people who love God. If we don't we will constantly be fighting to stay on the straight and narrow~
