The store I am looking in don't have Panasonic Plasmas of that size.

If those were my only two choices I would pick the Sony. From what I understand Philips plasmas aren't that great. Have you considered a Panasonic plasmas? They are great ( of course I am biased as I have and love my Panasonic plasma)

I have a sony 40 inch lcd and its been great, its worth the extra money.
