I notice people, women mostly will keep walking, even thought your walking right in their direction and refuse to go to the side or get out of your way, its almost like a game. I refuse to let anyone bully me into walking to the side. So I stand my ground and people will bump right into me because they refuse to walk to the side. Like I said its mostly women.
Whats up with that?

Because they are busy going to work, meeting friends, going to the gym...instead of someone actually even caring about where they walk. They are not bullies...it's not the 3rd grade sweetie.

i'm glad you clarified.. people are jumping on you without understanding what you are trying to say. i'm a new yorker and i know EXACTLY what you are talking about. it baffles the mind. as congested as the sidewalks get in this city i don't understand why people can't keep to the right. even when there's plenty of room and no obstructions on "their" side it still happens. it's so annoying!! they will look you right in the eye like you're the one in the wrong. RUDE. it's even more annoying on station stairs. i wish i had an answer. being in a hurry is no excuse. i always take it as a sign of being self centered and having poor manners. i saw an elderly woman knocked to ground by man hurrying along on the WRONG SIDE.

Is it arrogance? Is it aggressive behavior?
I usually attribute it to "Brain Death". The same folks walking into you are the same life long losers who are clueless. Do not stoop to their level.
I am 6' 2" 200 lbs. If I walk into them they will get hurt. So I stop and let them walk into me.

I've never experienced this. But then I was taught as a child how to walk on the sidewalk. You're being hit because you're not on the right. You walk on the right, justl like you drive.

One day your luck is going run out and you will pull that trick on one of those NewYork women that is having one of those really bad New York days and she's going to turn around and knock you on your azz and you ain't gonna be getting up anytime soon.
There is also an unwritten rule among NewYorkers that says that you never ever let a stranger touch you . Many rip -off scams start by people doing exactly what you're doing. You do the bumping and your accomplice does the ripping off-Simple

Well, you aren't giving any either.
Like the roadways and highways, there is a certain protocol when walking on crowded streets. You obviously think they don't apply to you.

What do you think? As someone who was born, raised and still lives in NYC, we're pretty rude and arrogant people. But hey, we cant help it if we're better than everyone else.
