Anytime you start a diet, you should always talk to your doctor. Your still young and it could still be baby fat. I completely understand that you will be in high school next year and you want be like the other girls. Talk to your mom and your doctor about a diet. The best thing is a lifestyle change, rather than a diet. Eat 5 or 6 times a day portioning your food out. Eating right with your carbs, proteins, veggies, and fruits. The weight will come off. I lost 10 lbs in a week doing that.

Height-weight charts are normally for fully grown adults - not children still growing. Don't pay attention until you are at least 18. Worse, the charts were typically put together using army recruits, so they are for strong, healthy young 20-y-o's, not a variety of people of different ages and builds.
The problems with diets:
-if you are still developing (you are!) then starving your body of essential nutrients is bad. You should be eating healthy meals and taking a good multivitamin.
-if you starve yourself, then you don't reall lose weight as well as you might think. There's a whol science of this - starving puts your body into "starvation mode". It shuts down to preserve itself, in case the starvation lasts a long time. One thing it does do, is dissolve muscle, since muscle burns more calories than non-muscle. The best weight-loss is regular exercise and eating less (not none) of the high-carb junk foods - pop (sugar water); pasta, baking, chips and other starch/sugar treats.
-one of the main dangers of "starvation mode" is that your heart is muscle. If your body starts consuming heart muscle due to heavy starvation, you risk heart problems down the road. That's why people who drop a lot (100lbs in 6months, for example) risk having heart attacks.
I suggest you eat sensible - i.e. have the burger, but not the fries; have diet drinks instead of pop, but don't skip orange juice or milk. Exercise to get in shape - can you jog/run a quarter-mile, or climb 10 stories without feeling like you're dying? Walk a brisk 2 miles (half hour) or do a half-hour of some exercise every day or 2.
This is all part of the "healthy lifestyle". If you have a decent amount of muscle, it will burn calories while you just sit there -which means you can eat decently and still not gain weight.
So that's what I would do - concentrate on being physically fit, and your weight will take care of itself - and you will feel better and be healthier.

Don't worry about losing pounds right now. Your weight will continue to fluctuate because you're still growing. Measure your progress in how your clothes feel. Nobody has one perfect weight that is right for their height. Take 2 15 year olds. They're both 5' 4" but one wears a size 6 and weighs 140 lbs. and the other wears a size six at 120 lbs. It's because of the difference in bone structure, muscle mass and other things. Just focus on eating healthy meals and exercising at least 30 minutes a day, 4-5 days a week.

My sister is in 8th grade as well and she has the same concern that you do. If you just eat right and exersize you will see results, jump roaping has helped her to slim down. Try to jump a little each day. 1 min jumping equals 10 calories burned, so if you did it for 30 min you would burn 300 calories. Try eating a big breakfast and two big salads a day and in a month you will be on your way to a slimer you! (oh, i forgot, with the salad you can have basicly whatever you want, as long as its not junk food. The salad helps your body to flush out whatever you eat so you won't feel deprived of eating like you normally do) Also try to set aside just one day duning the week when you just eat ANYTHING you want (just one day) This will keep you from failing and will help you stick to your plan! Best wishes

Height weight charts do not give you an accurate picture of what you should weight.
The most important measurement is your body fat percentage.
If you eat healthy and exercise you will weight what you should weigh.
I understand that many young girls have body image issues but you just need to be healthy and not listen to what others say.
