Adam and Eve did not commit any major crime -- they just had a little curiosity. And I think anybody who had any sense would have done the same. It was absolutely certain to happen -- because there is a deep need in man to know. It is intrinsic, it is not sin.

It is in the very nature of man to know. And God is prohibiting him. He is saying, "Remain ignorant."

Of course people who created Adam and eve myth wanted to set an example to others about the "punishment" of curiosity. I mean frankly, how can eating an apple can be a sin?

The more you remain ignorant, the more you believe in god! That's the real stroy!

If you had a beautiful Peach Tree in your yard, large peaches have just got to the time for eating, one morning you go out to get the paper, you look, all the peaches are gone.

Later, you find out it was your neighbor that stole them in the middle of the night, would you not say that your neighbor was a thief.

The tree in the Garden of Eden belonged to God, He had give everything else to Adam & Eve, when they removed the fruit from the tree & eat the fruit, they were a "thief" they had taking something that did not belong to them, it was God's.

Yes, they commited a major crime. They disobeyed a direct command. God warned them (Genesis) that in they day that they ate of the fruit they "would positively die". Eve was deceived by the serpent but Adam was not. He loved his wife more than God. (God certainly would have given Adam another mate if he had been faithful). The Bible says that sin and death entered into this world through one man (Adam) and sin and death had spread to all men.

Unfortunately, you are more than likely basing this statement on the inaccurate
teachings that Eve ate fruit and her disobedience to God made Him angry at her.
Well, thats not what happened in the Garden of Eden, and the truth of what DID happen in the Garden is all but cemented in truth in the original manuscripts. Also, the
actual sin that Eve committed was extremely
harmful, extremely dangerous, and caused
an entire race of people to be living on this Earth even now, today, in 2007 - and 99% or even more of even your regular Church-going Christians are completely unaware of it, because they are taught either nothing or a bunch of nonsense by their "church".

Also, I should tell you that any person who does not know what really happened in the Garden of Eden, and what happened as a result of it, will not understand most of what they read in the rest of their Bible.

Hard to believe? Lets test it out, shall we?
If I were to ask you to name the first two sons of Adam, could you do it? My quess
is that you could not - not accurately.
If your answer was Cain and Abel, you answered incorrectly, and you might want to re-think just how much of the rest of the Bible you understand.

Whether you take the story literally or figuratively, their sin was not "a little curiosity." Their sin was desiring to be like God, to be their OWN gods instead of relying on Him.

That's not a little sin, that is THE sin.

It's intrinsic NOW, which is why it's called "original sin." It's not something that God put into humans -- it's something humans gave themselves. (Being created in God's image, we have creative ability also.)

No, not at all. God gave man a choice to live as spiritual man as he was created or to live as mortal man. Adam chose to live as mortal man. it has absolutely nothing to do with knowledge. Adam and Eve thought there was pleasure in the flesh. That was man's downfall and still is.

Yeah, everyone who has children or has dealt with children knows that if you want a kid to NOT do something.... don't tell them not to do it. If you say to a kid "don't jump on the bed"..... they'll be curious as to why they shouldn't and they'll do it anyway.

Yes, the whole story about adam and eve eating from the tree of knowledge is basically a story of a selfish god not wanting his creations to attain knowledge. He wanted his creations to be ignorant. But rather than simply "erase" the events and start over he chose to punish them and all humans from that point forward. All because they were curious about acquiring knowledge. What kind of "all loving" creator punishes it's creations for wanting to expand their knowledge?

I think the christians use this story on a regular basis to avoid free and critical thinking. They say ignorance is bliss.... eden would've been bliss for adam and eve if they hadn't acquired the knowledge from the tree.... So i suppose that it's true.

There was more to it than simple curiosity. Satan essentially told them, God is lying to you. They didn't disagree with him, but instead trusted him because they wanted to really see if eating the fruit made them like God. God's command was not "remain ignorant", it was "trust me". But instead they chose to trust Satan because of their selfishness to gain knowledge and power. That wasn't even the worst part either. It was when God came calling, they ran and hid in fear. And when confronted, they placed the blame on each other and on the serpent. Not only did they disobey, but they did not acknowledge and repent of their wrongdoing in front of the One who knows and sees all.

God called for obedience. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that God would have eventually let them "eat of the fruit", if a literal fruit is meant. The use of gender in the passage makes me wonder, but that's just speculation.

Anyway, this is another example of where the concept of "personal rights" got in the way of doing the right thing.
