Engineering is a broad subject with many aspects. You might be interested in Electrical Engineering rather than Mechanical. Materials or structures might rock your boat or maybe computer hardware. Consider all the different fields and write about the ones that you find interesting!

All aspects, before I retired I was an Instrument Engineer this job covered all aspects of Engineering, Electronics, Mechanical, Electrical, you name it we did it.
Not sure why I keep saying "Before I retired" I am still an Instrument Engineer, even though I'm retired.
I can think of nothing more boring than to stick to one aspect of Engineering , say Mechanical, (we used to call them clankies)!
So if you are going into it , diversify, you will never get bored, and the money is good.

I work in the manufacturing, so what particularly interest me is seeing projects going from the design stages, and then seeing the raw materials being transformed into items we use everyday.

I'll have to agree with dogsafire. I love seeing, knowing and understanding how things work. Not only to make them better but to use those concepts on other ideas or know how to fix it when/if it gives me issues.

I like that engineering can be concrete (vs abstract). I also like that engineers can continually research new ideas and try to understand them in concrete ways.
