James Cook University is Australia's leading tropical research university in Cairns or Townsville.
Townsville and Cairns are thriving coastal cities, each with populations of more than 130 000. More than two million visitors a year come to experience the World Heritage listed natural wonders in our region – the Great Barrier Reef and the rainforests of the Wet Tropics. These ancient environments offer rich teaching and research opportunities for our students and staff. More and more Australian and international students are discovering the advantages of tropical Queensland as a study location.

There are two. James Cook University in Townsville for tropical waters; and the University of Tasmania, Launceston campus, for temperate and Antarctic waters. Take your pick. Both are world renowned schools of marine biology.

Other Australian universities offer the subject but those two are the best.

G'day,

There are only 42 (soon to be 43) universities in Australia, all of them are fully accredited and tightly regulated, therefore the quality and recognition of their graduates are equal from wherever university you are studying from.

The Australian uni's offering marine biology to international students are as follows (no particular orders):
Deakin Uni (www.deakin.edu.au)
Griffith Uni (www.griffith.edu.au)
Uni of Adelaide (www.adelaide.edu.au)
James Cook (www.jcu.edu.au)
UTS (www.uts.edu.au)
Flinders Uni (www.flinders.edu.au)
Macquarie Uni (www.mq.edu.au)
Uni of Sydney (www.sydney.edu.au)
Uni of Western Aus (www.uwa.edu.au)
Edith Cowan Uni (www.ecu.edu.au)
Uni of Tasmania (www.utas.edu.au)
Uni of Western Australia (www.uwa.edu.au)
Uni of Wollongong (www.wollongong.edu.au)
Uni of QLD (www.uq.edu.au)

Tuition fee & requirements will be available in those websites. Please make sure that the information you accessing are the ones for international students, not for local students, as there are some difference in regards to tuition fees. Once decided on the uni, fill in the application form and send it together with certified copy of your academic qualification (in English and original language). The process will take abt 2-3weeks, depending on the time of the year. Depending on your friend's country of residence, you may also need to submit IELTS test results as proof of your English proficiency (www.ielts.org).

Hope this helps. Good luck for your study and welcome to Australia :)
