Most of the questions I star are ones that I myself don't/can't answer, or ones that are downright hilarious.

I only do that if I am getting hammered with thumbs down :p
99% of the time, I star either because I like the question, I like other's answers, or I think the question is too ridiculous not to be shared.

I usually star a question when it made me laugh really hard, it's very interesting, a friend of mine asked it, or I used up my answer quota for the day and I want to let the person know I saw and was interested in their question.

No, I have done it too. It is fun to be devils advocate. You usually do it when you agree with the idea, but there are some people who are so obsessed and over do it, that it is fun seeing them react.
