So many say they don’t care what others think yet this goes contrary to all evidence.
We care a great deal about what others think.
What do we achieve by it all?
What’s to be gained?
Do we even know?
Do we care?

I don't Proselytize. As a Wiccan we simply do not do that, ours is not an evangelical kind of Faith. In fact we even tend to discourage folks from adopting our ways. Being a Witch is NOT an easy thing to take up and it's NOT one of those things that you can do just on a whim or just because it "appeals to you" or you feel like rebelling against your parents or society. Witchcraft is serious business and requires a LOT of hard work and dedicated learning and study. Because of that we tend to NOT seek out converts but rather make THEM seek US out and PROVE that they're willing to do the hard work that is needed to become a proficient Witch.

I think part of it is that we do care what others think, but not in the sense that we need to have our egos stroked. I think it is also because we want to learn. When we pose our beliefs, if they are questioned or agreed with, it helps us to grow within our own sense of awareness. That is, perhaps we think we are the only one who believes something. Knowing another believes that gives us a feeling of unity; Oneness, if you will. If they are questioned, it forces us to affirm that belief and back it up with solid faith and preferably fact. Think about how much you have learned from others' answers to questions you have responded to also. Think about how others likewise must be learning from you. If nothing else, you are challenging them to think things all the way through.

There indeed is a lot that can be gained by verbalizing our beliefs.

(Now, on the other hand, if the proselytizer is one who just loves to hear themselves talk, or is one who refuses to truly listen in return (you know the type), then I do not care and I will not listen....)

My yoke is easy and my burden is light.

That is why I need to "broadcast" what I have learned. It is in planting seeds that I find joy. That is knowing enough. I've had a few things "come up" and do well, which is an indication that the seed, air, soil, sunshine and water are all "good."

I think some do it because what they have has brought them so much personal freedom & joy they want to share it. But I think others do it to validate themselves. Still others as not so subtle put downs to make them big or right by making others small or wrong.

I think on some level we want people to accept our beliefs because we feel they are accepting us also. yes, we all do care what others think about us. maybe, possibly, its caused by our feelings of inadequacy or insecurities. We have to strive to attain a spiritual level where we are truly and genuinely content with who we are.

I will be happy to stop when there is a true separation of church and state. Believe whatever you would like, don't force it on others and keep it out of our laws, medical research and politics.

We proselytize because Jesus told us to...He didn't tell us to "force" it as most non-believers so annoying claim happens...and we should respect them, if they say "no thanks" we should be like...ok sorry for the inconvience...it really, REALLY, annoys me when I say something and they're like "I KNOW WHO GOD IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and I was like...I'm sorry, did I yell at you?
