What are the Syrians supposed to do when an Israeli fighter-jet had intruded deep into Syrian airspace?. Should they simply ignore it?. I think any sovereign nation of this world will respond in the same way as what the Syrians did. I am not trying to take sides here, I am just thinking in logical terms.
The Israelis should have been more careful and should have never undertook such hostile actions, considering that both Israel and Syria are not in good diplomatic terms for more than 7 years now.
The Israelis would have surely shot at any Syrian jet-fighter caught flying in Israeli air-space too.

First of all Syrians are mostly Sunni Muslims. Which means they are not Dhimmis.
I am not surprised that they shot at the plane.
Syria will probably never get the Golan Heights back by force.

The Syrians never said the shot a plane down, or what type it was. They just said that an Israeli airfcraft entered their airspace, dropped mutitions, they fired on it, and it left. They also said no one was injuried and no property was damaged.
It could have been a recon flight dropping flares when it was fired on. Then again it may not have been an Isreali aircraft, it could have been another country.
