I already took my ASBAV test; I scored a 63. Enough to get me into my calling: MEDICINE. So now that the field chances are open I wanted to see any general tips and/or advices regarding this navy field.

I also want to make and informed decision; what are my chances of getting deployed to Iraq after “C” School?

I will be 21 this month; 2 semesters away from my AA in Premed. Single, talented, experienced, and a natural leader. Real rather than religious Christian. Is this the right move for me?

I want to serve my country; I want to serve in the area where my abilities and passion are arrayed: Medicine.

You came to the right person. The odds of a Corpswave getting deployed to the green zone hospital is prolly zero. you may be on a carrier nearby, but that's fun.

Behavior Specialist School is popular with corpspeople, but with all the traveling PTSD teams, you could wind up in Iraq.

Get a hospital. Try SanDiego NVARMC, you'll love it!

BTW, you sound like a very intelligent person, EEG school might be perfect for you.

Marines do not have their own hospital corpsmen. Navy hospital corpsmen serve in this capacity. The chances of deployment are very high.

I think you meant Class "A" school, not Class "C"". Unless you are already figuring on attending some more specialty training after Class "A" school. Usualy you will go to one duty station or ship after "A" school. Following that you might be order to report to a Fleet Marine unit via Class "C" Field Medical Service School. Since the Marines have the bulk of the chore in Al Anbar Province in western Iraq and that province seems to the marshalling point of Al Queda in Iraq, chances are you will be deployed with some FMF unit to that province.

I would do it either way. With any position in the military you can get deployed, but to where and when is the real question. I know people who deploy to Eygpt, Guam, and U.A.E. You may be called to Iraq to help in the medical field, but I would say your chances are very slim because they will most likely stick you in a hospital or on a hospital ship.
Good luck!

There is a great need for US Navy Hospital Corpsmen to be assigned FMF (Fleet Marine Force). You may be selected for duty with the Marines, and if so there is a STRONG possibility that you will be deployed to a location where shots are fired. Good luck and keep your head down !!!

I am going to be honest to you shipmate, 9 times out of 10 you will be sent to Iraq at the rate of a HM because that is where HM's ,Seabees, and sometimes MA's are sent. Good luck though and God Bless.

go for it. after your A school (naval hospital corps school), you will most likely get sent to FMSS (field medical service school), to train with the marines. then your chances of deploying with the marines is pretty good. corpsman is the best job in the military. your marines will take good care of you, so take good care of them! remember that it is an honor to be a corpsman in the navy. congratulations on your choice, and best luck to you!

if you are male: very high, most likely as part of FMF with the Marines. Not just Iraq, there is also a large HM presence in Afghanistan, GITMO and the Horn of Africa/Darfur.

Why don't you go ahead and get your M.D.first? Then you can enlist as a physician and a commissioned officer. Corpsmen are just that (I was one) - corpsmen who serve as front-line medics providing first aid. While it's an honorable thing to do - otherwise I'd never have volunteered to do it - had I to do it over, I'd get my M.D. first...
