Visit a religious store. You can get the child a rosary or possibly a metal with a saint or maybe a cross or crucifix. You have a big responsibility as far as God mother. Congrats and God Bless You and your God child!

The gifts aren't that important. If you want to buy a baptism gift, do so but pick out something that means something to you. It's the relationship between godparent and godchild that's important, not what you buy them.

For a gift I bought a bible for the baby's family and had it engraved to the baby from me. Then after the baptism I had a little brunch/party after church for the family and some close friends.
Each year on the baby's birthday I have given an educational savings bond (the baby's now 17 and a senior in high school).

depends:

if the family of your god child is already rich or stable, just provide something memorable.

if the family of your god child is not that of a good family stature, you can help the parents provide the babies needs. as per cathecism, you are also a parent by the law of God.

if you are really not sure, you can give the child sort of investment for the childs future (if you are that generous), or just give a gift cheque so the parents can be flexible for the babies needs

As a godparent, you are just what the name says you are. You are not the parent. You are to FILL IN when the parent is too ill to care for the child or just can't afford to buy for the child. You are just a helper to the parents for the child. You buy what you want to buy if you want to buy... but most of all love the child.

Most people buy a Bible, gold cross, etc. Although baby baptism is not found anywhere in the Bible. Even Jesus was baptized as an adult. So, I guess the babies head gets washed...OK.

There are great gifts (and usually a whole section devoted to them) at religious bookstores. A baby's first Bible, child rosary, plaque, or book would be great. They also have great cards for children, and some items can also be personalized.

How about a towel?

Seeing as the command regarding baptism is for one to repent, how does an infant do this?

Try a plaque of some sort in reference to God.

A braclet, a cross, a necklace, a prayer box with a personal prayer for that child. a new bible, a bible case, journal with a prayer book, etc....

My kids' godmother bought each of them a cross to hang over their beds.

Something religious is appropriate. Look for something that you find suitable and affordable.
