I remember seeing it on the news and also I remember the news of the murder of Congressman Leo Ryan by Jones' cult. It was surreal, almost unbelievable except that I tended to trust what I heard on the news back then. I was a young teenager at the time and was very devoutly Pentecostal too. It was a stab into my blind faith in religion, really, now that I think about it.

I know about it -- I think and hope that most people do, but the mass suicide occurred before I was born. It stands as one of the most horrific reminder of what can happen with cult mentality.

Yes, I was a child when it happened. The thing that made the biggest impression on me was the fact that they would so willingly follow such a man. When asked as a child what I wanted to be in life by my baptist parents I replied, "A cult leader." Man... they whooped my a** for that one... funny thing though... they wanted me to grow up to be a famous evangelical... so you can see my confusion over the whoopin.

Barely. I was just a grub at the time, but I remember it being discussed for years afterwords. I remember in school kids were afraid of Kool-aid, like somehow that was to blame...lol.

Yes...vividly. It showed how people can follow the teachings of a man while believing they are following God. A warning to all.
