You know the kind, they will be your friend in as much as you connect them to other people or groups that they want to be part of who then act snobby once they've made their connections. People who name drop, brag about a new purchase, talk about people...that sort of stuff.

What do you do to deal with this type of person?

Honestly, the best way is to not deal with them at all. Once you have figured out her game, you can avoid her. You can't change her and you can't stop others from falling for her tricks, so it's best just to move on and stay away from unpleasant people.

I have a real problem with people talking about other people. Not because I'm so nice, but I find the subject incredibly boring!! I'm not rude to these people, but I don't pay much attention to them or their antics.

If they talk about people to much around me, I just flat out tell them "This is the reason I don't get into other peoples business"

If they brag, I make good natured fun of them

We all know these people are just acting out their own insecurity and they also deserve kindness. But too often, no one is afraid to confront them (in a civil manner) so their behavior goes unchecked. So it keeps getting worse, the worse it gets, the more people shun them, and the more insecure they get etc etc etc.

I have a friend like this, she's also my roommate. It's really annoying! I know she's a good person, generally speaking, but not a very good friend. I hold her at arms length and don't get too close to her. She used to be my really good friend, best friend as a matter of fact. Now she's acting like a complete a**. If you somewhat like the person, do as I do, hang out with them, but don't get too close to them. If you don't like them at all, then avoid them at all costs.

I completely ignore their bragging, name dropping and talk of new purchases. I shut them down with a "that's nice" and a quick segue into a new conversation. If they persist, then I move on and find more stimulating conversation.

I hang onto them as a social contact of my own...they owe me. :o)
Seriously, there is nothing wrong with being sociable, unless you are rude about it and try to allienate people along the way.
A person who is worthy of a high social status may rise to the top, but they will fall off easily when people discover who and what they truly are.
If the person your referring to meets that criteria....just sit back and watch them fall off their self created mountain.

How do you deal with snobs? You know, the kind who think they are too good to speak to the ones they deem inferior? To me, this goes on much more than the situation you described.

tune it out the best you can, and ignore them, try not to think about them at all

if at sometime they are in an awkward situation, and an unkind and funny thing comes to your mind, just say it, in a nonchalant way. Dont try and think one up, let them moment and the idea come to you

if others laugh at them, join in, but dont laugh unless others do

yes, it's mean, but that's what that kind of behavior deserves

I am a bit like that. these people are more desperate than most, and will probably mess up along the way. you can do two things that i know of

hang to them on their way up
or
kick them on their way back down
