In the Bible, God is always portrayed in the masculine sense. But can you find passages that cite Father God showing feminine/motherly characteristics?

They are there, but do you know where they are?

Though being masculine, Shaddai can also mean 'many breasted one.'( Genesis 17:1) Also There is a name for God referred as "running to the shelter of a mother bird's wing."

El Rachum
which is God of Compassion. Derived from Rechem, which means 'womb'. (Deuteronomy 4:31 )

I am coming to know Gods Word better, the stronger my love becomes for the Word, the greater my knowledge is of the Word
it took some time for me to realize that the Word of God is Jesus in the Bible it says that the Word is with us.
we could destroy every Bible on earth and the Word would still be with us.
Genesis 3:8 says they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day
I myself have never heard a voice walk. I have heard people and animals walk but never have I heard a voice walk (let me know what you think am I way of base here)
back to your question; when God speaks of King David and his Love there of he doesn't sound like what we think of as masculine. God loved David even though David was a sinner
we can all learn a lot about our Father in the story of David

*I do not believe that God is either masculine or feminine as we see it.
we should be seeking the truth and not what the world teaches of being masculine and/or feminine

Bongernet-

You do realize you are full of it?

Religeon hasnt been the best partner for man. But its done many good things. Like limit the power of dictators, Inspiring a HEL of a lot of art and culture, and has been the bassis for almost all the freedoms you enjoy.

I can write a list of atrocities the chirch has commited against any one group. But for every Bible thuping son of a gun thats torturing innocent people or getting in the way of other things. There is a christian who is supporting the science, or crying on the inside becuse watching that poor woman be drowned for "being a witch" is like watching a brother or sister be drowned.

and dont you DARE put the cra* that all the Islamic originating religeons have done on to the rest of the world. When christianity moved somewhere it met a lot of opposition. It met it at every turn becuse people were not ready to give up therefaith, which ussually incorporated science and logic (though skewed in some casses) for something not there own.

SO GO LEARN SOMETHING.

now.

Back on topic. All of you christians who are cheering me on for that.... you can stop now.

Arnt all men capable of showing feminene charecteristics? Just as women are able to be brave and strong and productive men can be gentle, and sensitive, and provide a helping hand.

Im sure its important for christians to study that at least a little bit. but its apparent in every day life.

There's "Let us make Mankind in our image, after our likeness...So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." (Genesis 1:25, 27.)

Which seems to suggest that "God" is both male and female, and plural! The ambiguity is in the original Hebrew: the word used for "God" here is Elohim, a masculine plural of a feminine singular noun. The word Elohim is derived from the Canaanite father-god "El," and referred originally to the pantheon of gods associated with him. So this passage may be a reflection of a much older collection of myths from whence the Biblical account derives.

Patai has a great book on the tradition of a feminine divinity in Judaism called "The Hebrew Goddess." Of course, in patriarchal mainline Judaism, God is conceived as exclusively male; but for paleographers the books of the Bible are littered with hints of earlier traditions that have since been abandoned.

but anywho, no, i do not know where these passages are in the bible... but im sure GOD DID HAVE FMININE CHARATERISTICS. he is the creator of man and woman, so of course he has motherly characteristics.. he plays the mother and father role.

One of the more obvious passages that comes to mind is Psalm 91:4

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

This image of protection beneath his wings is metaphorically used to talk about his nurturing care. This would be considered a feminine characteristic by most.

I know woman and man together reflect the completeness of God. I would have to dig in to see if I could find what you are asking. Is the one like the mother hen gathering her chicks? I do know of one scripture that eludes t9o a female angel (demon).

You refer to Proverbs 8:22-31

I know Gods Word for it is inscribed on my heart.
But this refers to the Holy Spirit.

Why does everyone keep man separated from God as far as possible?

John 14:20
At that day ye shall know that I [am] in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

John 10:34
Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?

We as Children of God are potential full power Christ as much as Jesus himself. Men hate this news and created a dogma of a trinity that leaves man out of the picture. We are to be empowered by God. The Sophia is within each of us, the breath of life, it must be awakened by love, like sleeping beauty was woke by a kiss.

Matthew 23:37 - "...how often I wanted to gather your children together the way a hen gathers her chicks together under her wings! But you people did not want it."
Sounds motherly to me.

I'm not a Christian, but from what I've been taught, he's supposedly all-things and omniprescent and omnipotent. That means he's everyone, man and woman, and that's all through your bible. Specific passages......umm.....how about when he told Abraham not to kill his kid after all...that would be pretty motherly.
