LDS an acronym for Latter-Day Saints is a short way of identifying a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints -- Mormons

Latter-Days -- Meaning the last days before the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ.

Saint meaning Christian -- follower of Christ -- "Sainthood" was not used as a distinctive title of the apostles and evangelists and of a "spiritual nobility" till the fourth century. So Mormon use of Saint only means Christian.

From the Bible Dictionary:
Saint -- The word saint is a translation of a Greek word also rendered “holy,” the fundamental idea being that of consecration or separation for a sacred purpose; but since what was set apart for God must be without blemish, the word came to mean “free from blemish,” whether physical or moral. In the N.T. the saints are all those who by baptism have entered into the Christian covenant

LDS stands for "Latter-Day Saint." That in turn is a shortcut for "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." The term "Mormon" is often applied to this group, and was first used derisively because they (the "Mormons") believe that the Book of Mormon is another witness of Christ, or another volume of scripture.
