In dreams, water represents emotion and falling represents feeling out of control.
A possible interpretation could be that you feel that you lack control of an emotional problem that you are having and that you fear being hurt.
Wait hold on! I just noticed that this wasn't about you, but someone else. Sometimes we dream about others because we are projecting ourselves. This dream very well could be about yourself.....maybe even something that has harmed you in the past that you haven't dealt with yet.
Did you know this child? Did he seem familiar?

This is an anxiety dream. It is common when people with children are going through a divorce. There is a need to protect the child, and a sense of having no control over future events (possibly negative) that will effect the child. However the child in the dream is usually easily recogonizable as their own child.
If you don't know the boy in the dream, I would have to say it's probably you. Or maybe someone else close to you, like a spouse or boyfriend. Either way, the meaning is the same. You feel this person needs to be protected, and you have no control over what potentially dangerous situation they are in right now. You think they are about to literally fall down in life and hurt themselves. The pool is a symbol of helplessness or drowning in your problems.

According to Dreamcrowd:
If you are female and dream that you see or are a boy, then it indicates that you are developing the masculine aspects of character. Alternatively, it may represent your feelings about a real-life boy who is important and significant to you. You may have a crush on this boy and your waking thoughts of him has carried over into the dream world. Your motherly instincts may be taking over. If you are an adult male and dream that you see or are a boy, then it suggests your playful, innocent, childlike nature. Alternatively, it can symbolize the immature aspects of yourself that still needs to grow. Your inner child may be trying to draw your attention to parts of yourself that you need to recognize and acknowledge.
To see water in your dream, symbolizes the meeting between your two states of mind. The sand is symbolic of the rational and mental processes while the water signifies the irrational, unsteady, and emotional aspects of yourself. It is a place of transition between the physical/material and the spiritual. To dream that you are on the beach and looking out toward the ocean, indicates unknown and major changes that are occurring in your life. Consider the state of the ocean, whether it is calm, pleasant, forbidding, etc. To dream that you are looking toward the water, suggests that you are returning to what is familiar to you. Alternatively, you may be adapting or accepting to the changes and circumstances in your life. To dream that you are relaxing on a beach, signifies that the coming weeks will be calm and tranquil for you. Your stress will be alleviated and you will find peace of mind. To dream that you are working on the beach might signify a business project that will consume most of your time.
This is a common dream which usually represents underlying fears and feelings of inadequacy and helplessness. Interpret your dream by considering your primary fears, current difficulties, and situations in your life that seem to be on a downward spiral, especially those situations that seem outside of your control (financial, romantic,etc.). Some people believe that if you keep falling in your dream and don't wake up that you will die at the point of impact. This is absolutely not true. In a falling dream you wake up out of fear and not because of danger of dying. Superstition based dream interpretations say that if you fall a long distance in your dream and get hurt, be prepared for really hard times ahead; but if you fall and are not injured your upsets will be minor and temporary.

Falling into a pool can represent a situation where a person has fallen into a situation where they are drowning due to stress, worry, anxiety, fears and worry. But reason they hurt themselves from the fall is because they did not listen and were stubborn or prideful.
