They'd be convicted of negligence and endangering the welfare. The same way I would be if I just opened the door to my house and let the kids run around in the street.

If the kids make it to 'the age of reason' (say 13 years) and they go about causing havoc, I'm the one who goes to jail, or at least pays the price. They don't answer for themselves until age 18.

If their antics get them (or someone else) killed, the parent is the one who pays.

I agree that the God of the Old Testament might be a bit dodgy as a parent. Now, the God of the New Testament, I think, would do okay.

Why?
How are we not merciful to our kids? How do we not love them? In fact we are loving them JUST as God loves us, by disciplining them when needed ( if that is what you are getting at) By directing them in the right direction. We do not just say "Hey do what you want" -- Does God do that with those whom He loves? No! He loves us so much, He died for us! I would die for my kids in a heart beat. He loves us so much, He has forgiven us of our sins! I forgive my kids in a heart beat-- when I know they have done wrong. And I pray with them. God wants us to pray to Him- to have that personal relationship with Him. I want to have a very close relationship with my own kids as well.

Of course many out there do abuse, and neglect and it is sad. It is very sad! If I find myself ignorning my kids when I am busy with something else, I feel HORRIBLE, guilty immediately. So I make sure I listen to them when they are talking- Does God ever ignore us? NO!

Funny you brought this up because just the other night I was doing devotions with my kids and it was about how God hears us- and how God is the best listener. I told my son he can talk to God ANYTIME- no matter what it is about or when it is. And my son said "Yes and God will never get tired of listening" --It almost made me cry! And this is true- and we as parents should never get tired of listening to our own kids- no matter how stressed out we are at the time, or whatever is going on in our lives- never take it out on them. ( I have been guilty at times for taking out my stress on my kids and have felt conviction for it)

Luke 6:36
Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
Proverbs 22:6
Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.
1 John 3:18
Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. - Amen!

Maybe by the worlds standards which change every other day, but by god's standards you know your doing the right thing. It's called Love by God not abuse, the world is abusive.

Look, my kids had free will. I told them they could have all the bananas or oranges they wanted from the fruit bowl, but to leave the grapes alone. They chose to disobey me, therefore I put their seven-year-old butts on the street and will have nothing to do with them, or their children, or their grandchildren.

I might change my mind if I decide to kill an innocent person to make up for their horrible behavior, but I'm going to wait a very long time first.

And I agree with the answerer below me. My children, whatever box they may be living in now, were incredibly ungrateful. I could have had them aborted, but I decided to allow them to be born, and even fed them for seven long years. And I have even considered the possibility of killing someone just to let their great-grandchildren off the hook! You'd think they'd show a little bit of appreciation.

Why would they be accused with Negligence and abuse. God's love is perfect and never neglect or abuses us.

I would certainly hope so! God's parenting is equivalent to allowing your deadliest, evil enemy raising your kids; choosing to nominally communicate with a few of them while consigning the rest to genocide; and out of the chosen few if they find it hard to believe that your a loving parent, add them to the genocide list.

Not a pretty picture.

Edit: So if we punished our children the same way: our children would do something bad like one would steal a cookie and the other would be a mass murder. Then when we decided to punish them, both would be eternally tormented. Yeah that sounds like good parenting advice.

my parents did show me the same love and mercy God did. they still do. their love for me is eternal. they were there for me just like God. they provided me with all the things that i needed just like God. when i disobeyed they forgave me just like God. my parents have NEVER neglected me or abandoned me, my sister or brother. i thank God for my parents and i believe they did a GREAT job raising my sister, brother and i. if i chose to disobey their rules as well as God's then i would have to deal with the consequences of my actions.

The parents would be in prison for murder if they showed the same mercy as the biblical monster.
